HURRICANE TEDDY. WATCH THE FULL MOVIE BELOW

Hurricane Teddy in New Hampshire September 22nd and 23rd, 2020. The storm that lived up to the hype.
Featuring all the local NH surfers and the traveling California crew, as well as the East Coast contingent.
They were all here. It was pretty significant. Music is by my dear friend Steve Cataldo and his band the
NERVOUS EATERS, and my own band The VINNY BAND. Some of these songs were written back in the 70's.
The Eaters and the Vinnys were always playing together. It's kind of cool that 40 something years later we're
doing sort of the same thing. The other two cool instrumental songs are by Ty Tabor.
Anyway, I hope you enjoy this video. Big Kudos to Martha Lardent for her additional awesome footage.
This was shot in 4K so adjust your devices accordingly.
Check out the Nervous Eaters on aceofheartsrecords.com and bandcamp.nervouseaters.com
and check out the Vinny Band on gafmusic.com and Facebook.com/The VINNY-Band

This was me on Tuesday September 23rd, 2020 shooting the first pulses of Hurricane TEDDY. (photo above is by Stu Horne) I burned two 32 gig cards shooting video and stills. I'm shooting 4 K these days so those clips eat up a lot of space, but two 32 gig cards? Man that's some serious shooting. But alas my dear friends, it wasn't all work and no play for little Ralphie. No sir, I did manage to sneak out and catch a few myself. I surfed 10th street and scored some sweet little tubes then moved down to 18th Street to escape the kelp beds and surfed another hour or so by myself.

Actually I was joined by two big Harp Seals.

One had a massive head and kept popping up right next to me. He was huge. The other one stayed further away but it was big too. I used to love to surf with seals and have done so many times over the years. But the whole shark thing has me second guessing myself when it comes to surfing with them these days. I ended up leaving after a while, I didn't want to press my luck. Even though I was chuckling to myself (and the Seal) when I thought about my speech I give every summer to the Wounded Warriors during the HIT THE BEACH day. It is after all at this same beach.

My speech goes something like this (stop me if you've heard this before).

"If you're all wondering if there are sharks out in the water, here's what I want you to do. Walk down to the water's edge and stick your finger in it and taste it. If it's salty? There's your answer. However, should one of you actually be attacked by a shark and God forbid be killed by one? I promise you that come next year, there will be a Bronze plaque right here with your name on it."

I started laughing at the thought of a Bronze plaque with my name on it.

I'm sure the Seal thought I was loco. But it wasn't long after that thought when I left the water and headed home to start work on this massive Blog.
(photo below is by Becca Speak.)

Rather than have me blab you all to death about TEDDY I think I'll just let the photos and movie trailer do all the talking. What's the old saying? " A picture is worth a thousand words." Well that's certainly true this week with 13 solid galleries full of photos of HURRICANE TEDDY. Put it this way, the waves we got from TEDDY were some of the BEST in Years!

And all the photographers came out for TEDDY.

This is a pic of Kody Grondin taken by David Manzi on Tuesday
September 18th, 2020.

It's always cool to see something I've never seen before. This pic of me an my son Mackey checking the surf after he came in is pretty damn cool. This pic was taken by John Carden. John and I go way back to the early 90's when he used to run a recording studio. My band The NOR'EASTERS recorded many songs with John. Anyway, long story short, I turned him onto surfing and surf photography. So it was great seeing him back out there.

He shot this pic of Mackey after he got some insane barrels. Think he looks stoked here? Mackey told me after his last session on Wednesday that he thinks he got between 20- to 50 barrels during the whole swell. Damn.

Ed Moran shot this two pic sequence of Alex Orestis dropping in on the Mad Howler Dog himself Tyler Moore. If you've never been around Tyler when he's out surfing, you really haven't lived. He will typically yell and scream and hoot like a man possessed, and usually ends all his rides by flipping everyone off within his eyesight. Getting the bird from Tyler is an honor. Usually it's a double bird flip. Lord knows I've gotten my share.

He must have yelled so loud that the shock waves knocked Alex off his
board. God I love these guys.

My Southern fellow photog Dina Crawford was out shooting the action too.
rarely does she cross the bridge, but I always know that when the beachbreaks are firing she is all over it. It's a good feeling to know that she is covering all the sandbar action while I'm up north dealing with the rocky reefs and point breaks. This might be David Schultz (who by the way also sent me a cool gallery of TEDDY pics).

This is one of David Schultz's pics. This was the day the swell jumped up to a solid 8-10' and was firing on all cylinders. Everyone was out surfing and everyone was shooting the surf. It was everything we thought it would be.

Finally below is a pic from Mindy Bocko. Mindy has a gallery of her work featured below with all the other photographers. This is Pev dressed more
like it's winter than late summer. Trust me it wasn't that cold. I personally surfed for almost 3 hours in just a 3/2 with no hood, no gloves, and no boots.
Most surfers dressed down. In any event, be sure to check out all the galleries there's some really good photos of Hurricane Teddy. It's TEDDY HEAVY.

"HURRICANES and SURFING HEALS ALL WOUNDS!"

This week's Ed's corner is Erik Cannon who has a few pics in the TEDDY Galleries and is also featured in the TEDDY video that's Premiering on Thursday October 1st, 2020 at 7:00PM right here on the Blog. Check out the Trailer down in the video section.

Now for Some Local and National News

Patriots almost beat the Seahawks in a GREAT Game last week. They had a chance to win the game in the final seconds. Final score was 35-30. I know I'm not alone when I say that, even though we lost the game, I walked away from that game feeling so much better about the team. I'm still liking Cam Newton. I think he fits right into the NEW Patriots. This week's game against the Las Vegas Raiders should be interesting to say the least.

GO PATRIOTS!!!

And speaking of Patriots...if you care about our country you had better well be Voting on November 3rd. Even though the Electoral College will ultimately choose our fate for us, you still should get out and vote. I no longer watch the news, but I will be watching the debates. I like Biden's idea about have a bona fide Fact Checker LIVE on the debate. It would be great to catch these two red handed in telling lies. Cause you do know they both lie. They're politicians. All politicians lie. It's just a matter of who lies less.

That's who you're voting for. The guy who lies less.

My question is...how soon after the election will COVID no longer be a threat? A month? Two months? By the inauguration? It sure will be interesting though won't it. I don't get how the NFL coaches must wear masks on the sidelines, while the players do not. Can someone explain that science to me? Anyone?

I worked on this CD (designed the front and back cover), and I recorded one of Asa's songs. Click on this image (below) to read some of the reviews and find out how and where to buy one. There's some great recordings on this record by some of Boston's best musicians.

There will be a live performance of all the artists who played on this record at some point (once the Bloody Covid leaves), and it will be a worthwhile gathering of friends and artists of the super talented Asa Brebner. Stay tuned for more info.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
They keep talking about mail fraud when it comes to voting. I guess I wasn't paying close enough attention until I saw this. Now I see why some folks would be a little suspicious if Khaliddy here was your mailman. How he got a job deilvering mail down in GITMO is a mystery to me. Whoever thought that The Sheik would make a good mailman must once again, be on crack. This man can't be trusted getting them votes in. I mean come on people! Wait, my bad, this is just another one of those photoshop jokes of mine. Nevermind.

And so my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

This is for all the young surfers out there who might think, that I am just some old surf photographer who never surfed a day in my life. I've been surfing every year since 1964 ( except for my year in Vietnam) including today. And while my time in the water is limited, I still love to surf. Photo by Michael Baytoff

Three Tropical Storms that gave New England some fun waves. September 6th, 14th, and 15th, 2020. It never got really big, but anytime the waves are head high and the water temps are in the 60's it's worth it. My son Max was celebrating his birthday on the 14th, so it's a little Max heavy. But seeing Kainalu Nichols surf at home again is worth the price of admission alone. Wait, what am I talking about it's free. TROPICAL STORM KYLE 5 Days Of Waves from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

From August 15th to August 19th, 2020 TS KYLE lit up the New Hampshire seacoast. The Boys and The Girls were there to meet Kyle every hour of every day. Suffice it to say, by Day 5 they were all gassed. But not before I shot the best of the best. It didn't really clean up until Day 4, but not having any real waves for so long, nobody was complaining. I managed to get in the water with my trusty HERO 5 GoPro and shoot for a couple of hours in just my trunks and rash guard. Yes it was that warm. I tried to shoot everyone who was out there. But try as I might, I always end up missing a few. I'm sorry if I missed you. The music is provided by my super talented nephew QWILL. You need to check his site out qwillmusic.com

Little Soft Top Or Christmas In July from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

July 1st and 2nd, 2020. The 157th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. The actual battle lasted 3 days. July 1st, 2nd, and 3rd. But here in Hampton, NH? It was all about surfing at the Wall. Dougie "Fresh" Wright was in town and as always, he times his visits with a fun summer swell. The surfing is all by the local crew. The music is three songs from The VINNY Band LP "OLAS DE SEXO" recorded in 1983 and produced by our dear friend David Robinson. The music isn't exactly contemporary but it works well enough for Surfing. Look for the near decapitation of Cam MacLeod. Crazy. I shot this in 4K so adjust your machines accordingly. The BOYS & GIRLS Of Summer 6-5-20
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK so I shot this all on June 5th, 2020. I started shooting at 8:00AM. There was only ONE person out at this secret spot called The WALL. Think about that. We all just spent two months in a Lockdown when the Governor opened the Beaches on June 1st, 2020. You would think that the first sign of a freaking ripple that people would be all over a waist to chest high glassy morning. But only a handful got it in the morning. People did finally wake up and by midday it was back to the normal crowd scene. It was just the best was from 7-9AM. Look, I'm not telling you this to make you feel bad (okay maybe a little) but you gotta wake up and check the cams people. It's summer! The flat spells are upon us. Anyway, I used The Ataris playing one of my favorite songs ever. Check it out. Live and learn. SURF FREE OR DIE!

OPENING DAY June 1st, 2020 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Finally, the Governor of New Hampshire opened our Beaches and allowed our people the FREEDOM to Surf. Albeit, there wasn't much in the way of Surf, but that didn't stop the Boys and Girls from paddling out at the Wall on North Beach in Hampton, NH. Nobody spread the COVID-19 Virus around, that I could see. It's funny because while we (surfers) were all practicing Social Distancing the Protesters and Rioters were NOT. It's almost as if The Coronavirus disappeared overnight. My friends we are living in strange times. As in very strange times. The music by TL fits perfectly. The BOYS ARE BACK IN TOWN!

COVERT-19 TS ARTHUR from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. Another from the COVERT-19 series. This might end up being the last of its kind because on June 1st, 2020 the beaches of New Hampshire will finally be open. The last in the nation to open the beaches. Thank God. This edit is all from Tropical Storm Arthur. This was shot in 4 K so adjust your device accordingly. The music is by the super talented Ty Tabor. Buy his music at amazon.com

MAY DAY from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The 7th video in the COVERT-19 Series. This one's called May Day. Just three surfers Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, and Kenny Linseman all practicing "Social Distancing" while hordes of people crowd the local beach Restaurants and nobody says anything. I don't get it. That's BS in my eyes. Practice Common Sense Not Nonsense. As long as there's surf, I'm going to document it. Music is by The Jelly Jam you can buy their music at amazon.com. Watch in 4K if you have it, otherwise watch in 1080.

MR MAN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Another from the COVERT-19 series. This one's called MR MAN. It's all from the 27th and 28th of April 2020. It's all in black and white. The featured surfers are: Jesse Gould, Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Matt Colby, Ryan Jackson, and Brett and Kai Zola. Music is by The Jelly Jam by their music at Amazon.com

NOBODY'S BUSINESS from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

From the COVERT-19 series. This one's called NOBODY'S BUSINESS. Shot in New England on Sunday April 19th, 2020. Surfers: Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Nick "Pev" Peverada, Lars Hamilton, Brian Taber, and Nate Gillman. ralphspic.com Music by Ty Tabor

COVERT -19 Series GHOST TOWN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

With the LOCKDOWN in full affect the local surfers have to get creative to find waves. No PARKING means just that. There's NO PARKING at any of the NH beaches. So what does that mean? Well, you can walk, ride a bike, or skateboard to the ocean. The Atlantic Ocean is a big body of water. As long as you avoid the beaches and leave your vehicle at home, the will to survive and surf is strong in New England. The Surfers who appear in the video broke no laws. They just went surfing and practiced Social Distancing. The music is by Jelly Jam. Amazingly talented musicians. Praying for those who are sick, and praying for all the businesses to hang in there. Things will get better. I hope they Kill The Virus soon. Meanwhile, "Surfing Heals All Wounds."

LOCKDOWN from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

Will this be the last surf Video I make in the next couple of months? March 27th, 2020. Was the Last Day before the LOCKDOWN. The COVID-19 Plague has taken the country by storm. Thank God we had this last ocean storm before the Beaches and parking lots were shut down. I should have called this edit The Day The Earth stood Still.

Couple of points of interest for you all. For starters, March 27th was my late father's birthday, as well as my late uncle's birthday, and it's also my youngest daughter's birthday. Today is April 2nd. It's also the Birthday of my two dear friends. David Robinson (The CARS) and Don Rose (Eat records). Why mention them? Well I used four songs off the LP OLAS DESEXO by the VINNY BAND. I wrote all of the songs on the LP. And David produced the record, and Don was record company president who signed our band back in 1979.

One of the songs you'll hear, "I NEVER SAW YOU" was number one on WBCN in Boston for four consecutive weeks. It featured Elliot Easton (The CARS) on lead guitar. And my good friend and fellow photographer Tony Berardini was the GM of WBCN at that time. The last song is called "HERE'S WHERE I GET OFF" and it is my personal favorite song I've ever written. And I've written hundreds of songs. Anyway, you got nothing to do these days except watch TV and fool around on Social Media. So watch and listen my friends. Watch and listen.
Happy Birthday David and Don!

I filmed this in 4K so adjust your machines accordingly.
