Meeting a True Surfing Icon, Wayne Lynch and seeing his film NEVER TOWN. A Forty Year R&R Anniversary. The SOX vs The DODGERS in Some Wild World Series Games. Sox are up 2 games to 1 as of Posting time. |
|
Last night I had the unique opportunity to meet another Surfing ICON. Wayne Lynch. If you don't know know who Wayne Lynch is, I suggest you Google him. But suffice it to say, he was (is) one of the greats. And to get to meet him in person was an honor. I swear I've met more surf legends here in Hampton in the last 10 years than I have my entire Life.
And it's mostly because of this man. Dave Cropper of Cinnamon Rainbows.
And Friday night was just another feather in the cap of CR as they once again pulled in the surf community by having this true Australian Surf Legend come to NH. I'm sure there are so many of you young surfers who have no idea who Lynch is and what his contribution to surfing is all about. Trust me, it's huge.
Photos like this back in the 60's made Lynch a star as a young teenager.
His influence on everything from radical surfing, to surfboard designs, to his never ending fight against the machine that has wrecked havoc all over the world, has made him a voice of recognition. He is a true warrior for the very sport we all love. His fight is based on logic, truth, and human emotion. The man has a heart of gold. And we are all better off because of it.
Speaking of hearts of gold. This pic below was the result of something so moving and extraordinary that those who witnessed it won't ever forget it.
Here I'll let Cinnamon Rainbows
Insta post speak for itself.

Thanks for everyone who came out to @musichallnhfor the @patagonia_surf @surfridernhevent. The evening ended in style when Scott @srderouin won the surfboard raffle and without hesitation walked up and handed his winning ticket to this lucky stoked kid Ely. Well done!!
This needs repeating. Scott won the Surfboard Raffle and got up on stage and walked past everyone and handed the winning ticket to this young Grom Ely. Can you believe that? That's Full on Stoke. Thanks for sharing the love and stoke of the most beautiful thing on earth. Surfing.
This is what community and surfing SHOULD be . Thanks Scott.
And we need to be thanking PATAGONIA too. They are true ambassadors of surfing and our environment. Zach Hartley holding the LOVE tee shirt brought his true passion for the world of surfing with him to the MUSIC HALL.
These are difficult times in our world. And individuals like these men are trying to make a difference. It's funny to hear Wayne speaking to Dave Rastovich in the beginning of the movie talking about Nuclear Weapons. Why? Because it's exactly what I've been saying for years. WHY DO WE HAVE SO MANY NUCLEAR WEAPONS AROUND THE WORLD? I mean if one can destroy the earth, why to we need 50 million of them? To quote Lynch "I mean even if you're into that kind of thing. Why do we need so many of them?"
It makes no sense to me Wayne. But I'm glad I'm not alone in that thought.
I had to post this old surf movie poster EVOLUTION with Wayne Lynch on the cover next to my own movie poster. Both of these movies are groundbreaking. And look, I'm not comparing my movie to this classic. But Granite Girls is the very first of its kind. Any way, Friday night was great!
Uh oh...I'm really feeling old here. Forty Years ago on October 26th, 1978 my band The VINNY BAND opened for the POLICE at the RAT in Boston. It was their first show in America. They played the RAT for 4 nights and we opened for them the first night. A little unknown fact about that night. After we did our soundchecks Sting and Andy approached me and said "Vinny (people called me that back then) would you know of any good places to get a quick bite to eat around here?" I said "Sure follow me." And up the stairs we went, took a quick right, and walked over to Dunkin Donuts where I said, "You won't find a better donut and cup of coffee in all of Boston." I even paid for them.
*Also, somewhere in the WBCN archives is Sting being interviewed after the show that night by Oedipus and Tony Berardini. And on tape, a caller called in and asked what Sting thought of any of the local Boston Bands. His answer, "Vinny would be a smash in London!" He was really into my bass player back then. And for good reason. Peter Michelini was a standout bass player. He was incredible. Unfortunately, he was also insane. But alas, another R&R story that has gotten lost in the dark corridors of the "If only's..."

This week's ED's Corner is another pic from 5 years ago. October 1st, 2013. This is Pev. I like finding pics of Ed's that feature surfers that I know. Pev is one of them. Judging from this pic it's clear that Pev was getting better and better on his longboards. I have a few pics of Pev that I shot this week to compare the difference of five years. Now for Some Local, National and International News
The RED SOX and the DODGERS are embroiled in a slug-fest of a World Series. Boston went up 2 games to 0. And Price once again got that monkey clearly off his back by winning game 2.
Then along came Game 3. A game that will live on forever in Baseball history. That Game 3 lasted 18 innings. It was the longest game in World Series history. We went to bed after the 13th inning. I heard it got over at 3:30 in the morning. That's insane. The Dodgers won that one. Bringing it to 2-1 in favor of the Sox.
Game 3 gave them life. But Game 4 took the life back. The Sox were down 4-0 in the 6th inning when all hell broke loose.
This guy? Pearce gave the boys from Boston a shot of adrenaline that would outlast the LA sluggers. From 4-0 the Sox scored 5 runs to win it in the 9th by a score of 9-6. They are ONE game away from winning the WORLD SERIES. Tonight's game is going to be one for the ages.
OK so I need to mention this loser (below). However, I won't give any time to the (PA) Mass Shooter. That's my policy. F*** them. I hate cowards. And Mass shooters are all cowards . But this clown below? Yeah he needs to be bitch slapped ala Ralphie style.
This loser sent out homemade pipe bombs to all the key leading Democrats in the country. But hold on a second. These pipe bombs couldn't hurt a fly because this Bozo didn't have his bomb making shit together. And yes, he's a MAGA Nut. Loves 45. In fact, he is the typical stereotype of the 45 follower. His name? Julus Cesar Milan. Talk about being so freaking stupid.
Julus Cesar you stupid son of a bitch. Hope you have fun in the Big House because you will NEVER see the light of day. EVER AGAIN. Is he a terrorist? No he's too stupid to be a terrorist. He's just one dumb ass 45 follower who will now spend the rest of his life taking real pipe-bombs up his ass in prison.
Now That's gonna stink.

I kept a daily BLOG when I surfed everyday during my
CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below)
Started on July 26, 2010 ENDED July 26, 2011.
A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days. |
Yesterday- Thirty-one years ago this past week.
Lil Ralphie was on his honeymoon surfing on Hawaii's
North Shore of Oahu.
(Below) Because it was our honeymoon, there were not many surf pics of me surfing. Too bad too because I caught some great waves on Kauai at Hana lei Bay. I even had a solo session with Joey Cabell. But I'm OK with what we have. As far as pictures of surfing. This was the time of our lives. It was before we bought a home. Before we had kids and real jobs. It was a time of Love and adventure. Well guess what? We still live that life of love and adventure. And surfing is still a very big part of our lives. I love you baby!
