One of the negative aspects of writing a weekly blog is, I'm typically a week late in the updated news stories. So I'm usually faced with a dilemma of blogging about yesterday's news or just skip it entirely. Well, seeing how I ended last week's blog with the Dodgers and The Sox playing game number 5 later that night, I just can't leave the story without an ending. I mean, we all know how it ended up. The Sox won 5-1 and did so convincingly.
Truth be told, the Dodgers never had a a chance.
Our Pitching and Batters were unstoppable. And look at me writing "our" pitchers and batters. You all know I'm a fair weather fan. I can't exactly come off in good faith as a rabid fan. I am not. However, as I have previously stated, I jump on board the band wagon just as she's pulling into the gravy-train post season. I do this with all non Patriot's teams. And no, I feel no guilt or remorse. The seasons are too dam long for me to invest my time into. Besides, I'm usually too busy stressing over the Patriots. My heart can only take so much.
But I admit, I watched every game of the world series, and when they won it all last Sunday night I was a true and excited fan. In fact, had you actually seen me during that last game you would have thought that I was really into the team. And I was. Just not all year long. I mean, I kept seeing them on the news and Online, as well as the newspapers magazines, and Sports shows. But I admit, I wasn't exactly rearranging my life to sit down and watch every game.
I watched the post season. Does that make me a half ass
fan? Probably.
But I did enjoy the post season's ups and downs. They were mostly ups though. And I did get to see and learn about certain players as each week went by. In the end, I was a fan. However, I won't be buying any DVD's, tee shirts, and or hats. I will give a nod and a smile whenever I meet a REAL fan.
They earned it. As most fans do with each sport.
So the RED SOX filled up the Duck Boats and went on their celebratory victory parade around Boston. And like other Victory parades (I've been to three Patriots parades and won't ever attend another) the fans get a tad on the rowdy side. They get drunk and throw beers. They throw them at the players, the managers, and each other. Some of the players narrowly escaped serious injury. And one errant full beer can actually broke off the top of the World Series Trophy. All in the name of celebration.
Here's a full can of beer heading for Mookie Betts. Thankfully it was deflected by a fellow Sox player/coach. That would have hurt if it connected.
But again, it's all in the celebration. Some 19yr old was arrested for hitting Alex Cora the Sox manager with a beer. Hell yeah! let's pelt the team and management with fully loaded beer cans. Seems logical.
This guy earned my respect. David Price got one hell of a monkey off his back this post season. And he was credited with winning the last game. Congrats to all the players, coaches, and fans. Here's to 2019!
And so just like that, October is once again over and done with. I wait all year for October to come, and every year it seems to go by in a flash. These last few Octobers have started out really hot and humid. Yes I believe in climate change. There's something going on for sure.
And the foliage has been off as well. We don't experience peak color down here on the seacoast until late October. And it's been pushed back up north as well. I just love the colors of October. And as you now know, I love to be in the uplands with my German Short hair pointer. And that short window has now closed again.
But one of the best things about October is those big fall Nor'easters. I shot some impressive footage last Sunday and the video(s) are posted down in the video section. Well worth the few minutes to watch them. This photo below is from that same session. A good friend of mine William Haffenreffer said to me just last night, that he thought one of my photos of an empty wave was
the best empty wave photo I have ever taken. Just so we're clear, it's not this photo. It is however down in the gallery section.
I guess I've taken so many empty wave photos over the years that it's hard to tell which is the best of the bunch. I would really have to spend some serious time and go through the hundreds of thousands of empty wave photos before I could make that claim as to "The BEST EVER." Be fun to do on a cold winter day. Going through my empty wave collection.
I couldn't help but notice all the migrating birds over the last week or so.
It's always sad to see them start to head south. We all know what it means. Winter is coming. And while I don't mind winter as much as others I know, I do prefer the fall. Don't get me wrong, I can certainly appreciate the winter scenes here in New England. It's just that I've discovered over the years, this simple fact. "The Older You Get-The Colder You Get!"
" Surfing and October Heals All Wounds."

This week's ED's Corner is an unknown. It was taken on January 3rd, 2014 just seven months before his untimely passing. I wish I knew how short his time would be on this date. But we had no way of knowing. I'm just glad that we were friends and co-workers right up to the end. Miss you big man. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some Local, National and International News
They killed Whitey Bulger this week. I could care less, but because I live here in New England it was big news. Sounded like it was a severe beating. Too bad Whitey. You shouldn't have killed all those people, and you shouldn't have ratted out on the mafia. Hell everyone knows that. Any way, I'm sure you're in good company. Lots of murderers and losers in hell.
These wanted posters might be collector's items now. I'm sure there will be a few for sale on E-Bay.
REMEMBER THE ALAMO! Yup...the Mexicans and Guatemalans are coming. And Davey Trump and his troops
will be there to stop them. This was from the old John Wayne poster of the Alamo. I couldn't help myself. It was too much fun to pass this up.
The midterms are on TUESDAY NOVEMBER 6th, 2018. GET YOUR ASS OUT THE DOOR AND VOTE. Otherwise SHUT UP.
