Hope you all had a wonderful and Happy Thanksgiving. I sure did. As a surfer/photographer the week of Thanksgiving was pretty damn incredible. The surf was firing on all cylinders and everybody was getting their share. And by everyone, I mean everyone. Myself included. I’d like to share my personal Thanksgiving morning experience with you if you don’t mind. Though I suppose, I could forgo all the boring details of my surf session, and talk about the current events of the last couple of weeks instead.
There seemed to be a never ending parade of losers the last week in the news. Like the two big court cases. The Not Guilty verdict of the chubby baby faced “Rambo wanna be” Kyle Rittenhouse verdict in Wisconsin, and the three white guys found Guilty of killing Ahmaud Arbery down in Georgia.
Truth be told, I agree with both verdicts.
However, I still believe that Kyle Rittenhouse is a freaking loser with an even bigger loser of a mother. The footage of him walking around with his hat on backwards, carrying his AR 15 at the ready position, looking like some kind of pseudo Navy Seal/Swat Team warrior trying to be pretend he’s on some special OPS dangerous mission. Instead of what he really is. A dufus wanna be loser. What is it with those who like to pretend they are real warriors? Most of them couldn’t hack a single day in boot camp, let alone a day in combat.
But according to the law, he was found Not guilty.
And look, that telling videotape of those idiots chasing him down the street and beating him up? Yeah, that’s all I needed to see. Losers killing losers. We used to have a saying in the Marine Corps. “Never bring a knife to a gunfight.” The same is true in this case. “Never bring a skateboard to a gunfight.” I’m talking about the three individuals who "Baby Face Kyle" shot. One had a skateboard that he used to beat Rittenhouse to within an inch of his life.
Yeah the victims? Well, they were not exactly angels. Hardly.
But in my eyes, Kyle was wrong on so many levels. Same with mama. But, the law is the law. I’m just hoping he goes away. I’m sick of seeing his sick smiling loser face on TV. But it’s obvious he’s enjoying his new star status. My guess is we have not seen the end of this loser.
And speaking of losers. These three losers should have that capital "L" tattooed on their foreheads.
The three white guys in Georgia accused of killing an unarmed black man and videotaping it too?? The future does not look very good for you guys.
Travis and Greg McMichael and William "Roddie" Bryan were found GUILTY of killing Ahmaud Arbery. Not sure what the three of you were thinking. Wait, I just figured it out. You were NOT thinking. How else can you possibly explain what the three of you knuckleheads did? You were NOT thinking. You guys went from being a trio of lovable local Rednecks, to now being forced to join the Klan or some other white Supremacist/Aryan gang in order to survive the shit storm that’s coming your way in prison. And make no mistake about it boys, there’s a shit storm coming your way. Like I said. You boys were not thinking that day.
But the biggest loser of the week has to be this scumbag. Darrell Brooks.
He’s the asshole who drove his SUV into the Christmas parade crowd in Wisconsin and killed 6 people including an 8yr old boy. He injured dozens more and yes, some of them were just children. There’s evil in this world. And Darrell Brooks is one Evil SOB. He deserves the worst of our legal capital punishment. Death penalty? Absolutely. No question. He is not worthy to breathe the same air as the rest of us. I’d volunteer to pull the plug on Darrell if there’s no one else around who’s willing to do it. I’d do it. Darrell has a police record that’s as long as my arm. Thank God his crime spree ends here.
And finally the biggest group of losers this week has to be the gang of 40 dirt bikers and ATV’s who attacked that 82 yr old man in Boston last week. Really? I mean really? What the ever loving f*** were you thugs thinking? You freaking lowlifes. Beating up a defenseless old man?
You worthless thugs attack an elderly man on Boylston Street in Boston because? What could he have possibly done to cause you all to attack him so viciously? I hope they find you all and prosecute you all to the fullest extent of the law. Disgusting pieces of human vile that you all are. Somebody knows who they are. Somebody got their license plates. Let’s bring these thugs to justice and let’s do it now.
I could also bring up the low approval rating of President Biden. 36% OUCH. I honestly believe Biden will be a one term president. His Afghanistan disaster alone sealed his fate. But the economy and his failed campaign promises are not helping. Plus his age. Call me jaded but, I think 100 is just too damn old to run a country. Wait, he’s not a 100? I’m sorry, I thought he was a member of the century club. My bad. You have to admit though, he sure seems fragile.
Or how about the latest COVID-19 variant? The Omicron variant in South Africa is the latest devastating news on the virus that just won’t go away. No matter how many people get vaccinated, it seems that this thing keeps mutating at every turn. What’s the answer to this latest news on Covid? Short term? Get vaccinated. Get the booster. Long term? The truth is NOBODY really knows how this thing is going to play out. But they do know that getting vaccinated does help. So please, get vaccinated for those you love. It’s not just about you. Think of your loved ones. The young and the elderly.
Do it for them.
But back to my Thanksgiving surf session. I had a short window to drive down the street and catch a few waves before Santa crossed the finish line in the Macy’s Thanksgiving/Christmas/Holiday parade. And that’s exactly what I did. The weather was mild. The sun was out the surf was still fun and I thought why the hell not? Rather than bore you with a detailed rundown of all my waves and rides, I’m going to fast forward to my last wave.
Two shortboarders paddled out and sat on me. (That’s when surfers sit so close to you that they virtually squeeze you out of the line-up). I just smiled and pretended I didn’t know what they were doing. That’s when I saw it. A set wave. Coming in off the outside sandbars. I pretended to paddle out hard to act as if I was going to catch it before them. But I saw that it was already jacking up and getting ready to break. I let the two shortboarders paddle past me as I stopped dead in my tracks.
They kept going before realizing that the wave was about to unload on their heads. I just sat there and watched them both take the mild beating. Meanwhile, I could see that there was a shoulder on the left, and I simply spun around and took off in the whitewater. I slipped and slided down the face and over to the open shoulder.
And that’s when I saw it. The inside was about to get hollow. So I hit the brakes and grabbed a rail and waited for the inevitable tube to form. Sure enough, it got smoothly hollow, and I ducked my head under the pouring lip, and got a nice long barrel ride. All the way to the inside.
When I kicked out I looked back outside to where the two shortboarders were. I gave a casual salute and went in. I got home by 11:00AM plenty of time to see Mr and Mrs Claus and to watch the National Dog Show with my two Shorthairs Patch and Zorro after the parade.
The boys were not happy with the BEST IN SHOW Dog. They both thought the German Shorthair should have won. “Claire” the Scottish Deerhound won best in show for the second consecutive year. We were all shocked. We wanted a recount. Damn you Claire.
You stole BEST IN SHOW award. Sometimes life isn’t fair. But we all ended up having a wonderful Thanksgiving in spite of this injustice.
Tis The Season my friends. Tis the season.

Yesterday- YOURS TRULY16 YEARS AGO. WINTER 2005.
(Below) This just made the grade of the yesterday criteria. I'm trying to keep it 15 years plus. I remember this day. It was freaking freezing out. It was just Max and I out there. It was one of those sessions that did not call for more than an hour or two (tops). It's funny seeing this pic because it's obvious that I still surf the same way. I am not a traditional longboarder. Nope. I typically grab a rail and try to get barreled. *Like my Thanksgiving wave story above.
