As some of you may or may not know. I was Commander at POST 35 from 2001 to 2014. I did 13 years as the leader of Post 35. One of the things I am most proud of in the 13 years I was the Commander, is being the driving force behind this monument. It is "THE" staple of what American Legion Post 35 is most known for. For those of you who don't know what this monument is, or what it stands for it's pretty simple. We have the names of each service member from the state of New Hampshire who was killed in the current
Global War On Terrorism since September 11th, 2001. This monument is the most sacred set of stones on the seacoast.

The very first year we only had the one middle stone.

But as the war dragged on, and more and more NH service members were dying, we had to add two additional stones. There are close to 70 names engraved on this monument. Each September 11th we add the names of those who died from the prior September 11th. This year we are adding four new names. We have a certain criteria that we follow to allow a new name to be engraved on this Memorial Monument.

We have since added suicide as a new criteria. After all, dying is dying.

The shame and secretiveness of suicide has now been erased, and it is in the news constantly. PTS is real. Veterans go through it all the time. And veterans have been taking their own lives at an alarming rate. 22 veterans commit suicide every single day. Let that sink in for a moment. 22 vets kill themselves every single day. It's time we honored them, as well as the others.

If you live on the seacoast here in NH you should really stop by to see the service that we have put together. It's impressive to say the least.

Speaking of Impressive. These are friends of mine from the Great State of California. From left to right; Dougie, Rocky, Wally, Jeff, and Wheels.
These men are the real deal surfers and then some. I've got a whole gallery of pics that "El Chambo" (not pictured here) shot of these longtime friends.

Love or hate them, they are what most surfers want to be. They play and think outside of the proverbial box. And they score almost every single time they set out to find surf. I say love them or hate them, because they are both loved (by people like me) and hated by those who have spent a great deal of money and energy trying to keep the ocean to themselves. Which is a losing battle with these guys. Why? Because they are true water-men.

They "Boat" into the spots they want to surf. And there ain't nothing that anybody can do to stop them. And though they are hardly young chickens, they still have the fire in their bellies. And it burns red hot once they make their minds up on their next strike mission. They say a picture tells a thousand words. Well that's certainly true with this crew. There's a whole gallery by El Chambo down in the photo section.

They document every step of the way once the plan is finalized and put into motion. These boats that they use have been written about in many magazines one of which is a sponsor here on this Blog. Perhaps you've heard of it. The SURFER'S JOURNAL. They may all be in their 60's but look at those smiles. Those faces are the faces of young men, in the prime of their lives, seeking out perfect waves where nobody else has ventured. Age is just a number. They are already thinking about their next mission.

And I can virtually guarantee you without knowing when or where they will boat to, that they will ultimately score perfect uncrowded waves while the rest of us are banging elbows and rails with hundreds of our closest friends. And they will share wave after wave and laugh among themselves, because they know, that they have beaten the odds once again. And when the day is done, they will toast each other and speak of their next adventure.

This is Rocky dropping into a nice wedging bowl, with nobody in the line up except the guys on the boat you came in on. Remember this pic the next time you paddle out at your homebreak.

So where exactly is this? Ha! Ha! Ha! Even if I knew, I wouldn't tell you.

I mean look at that peak! I love how that thing is just bowling into a sweet hollow section. It's both a right and a left. They were mostly riding the lefts
on this day. There's a couple of goofy-foots in the squad. But honestly? They mostly score the perfect rights that this little section of real estate is known for.

These boats are made for swift and precise action. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the US NAVY SEALS picked up the blueprints for these stealthy water-crafts. I do know, that there's no worse a sound to the grumpy locals, than to hear these babies come roaring into your private break.

Oh the horror. The horror. The horror. Here they F****** come again.

They may look like mild mannered older surfers on land, but once they hit the open ocean, they are anything but. God Bless you guys! I'm stoked that you all still hang and surf together after all this time. Get some for me boys!

The DVD's are in production down in NJ. They should be ready by late September to early October. The much awaited All Women Surf Movie of the ladies and girls of the Northeast. They will be available at all the local surf shops and Online.

COMING SOON THE GRANITE GIRLS and The River Women on DVD!
THE DVD WILL BE OUT IN SHOPS AND ONLINE IN THE FALL!

This week's ED's Corner is another unknown. Taken on August 1st, 2012. I don't recognize the rider, but I sure as hell know where this wave is. It's right down the street. At a not so secret spot called The WALL! Photo by Ed O'Connell

Now for Some Local, National and International News
This week has to be one of the worst weeks of 45's time in office. He was still stinging from the McCain fallout when the Bob Woodward book was dropped on his head. Right before the midterms. This was causing a regular shit storm in the Oval office.

The 45 Damage control was out in full force. Too little too late.

Calling the book a bunch of lies and untruths. But honestly? There's nothing in that book that surprises me. The man is what he is. His daily tweets and bumbling comments are enough to convince me of what he truly is. A pompous orange buffoon.

They say bad things happen in threes. I have to agree with that.

Because the very next day the New York Times printed a OpEd that came out of left field and sent shock waves through 45's administration. Written by an anonymous senior official that was both eye opening and alarming. I mean just when you thought things couldn't get any crazier this happens.

45 has been having total tantrums and breakdowns. He wants to know who this "Treasonous Traitor" is and he's on the warpath. They are all running around like sacred rabbits claiming it wasn't them. But 45 is determined to find out. He's on Jeff Sessions to launch an investigation on who the hell this "ANONYMOUS" senior official is. And there's real talk of the entire staff taking a Polygraph test. Can you believe that? At first 45 said that there is NO source for this OpEd and that it was Fake News. Why is everything Fake News with him? I mean I don't know about you people but this whole fake news thing is a freaking joke!

They all can't be Fake News! These three late night talk show hosts all say the same thing as well. Are they Fake News too? Are they Fake Jokes? Fake comics? No 45 they are all telling the same stories that the fake News Stations are telling us.

One thing's for sure. The word "Unprecedented" has little or no impact anymore. Every other day I hear the word "UNPRECEDENTED!" When will something finally break? Is this the end of 45? Or can nothing, and I do mean nothing but Mueller stop this madness? Only time will tell. But one thing's for sure, we have lived through some pretty amazing times.

This is funny. I mean come on people. You all know that 45 was one of the top backers of the whole "Birther" movement. So this particular meme made me laugh.

This guy made me laugh too. Burt Reynolds dead at age 82.
I really liked him in the movie DELIVERANCE. And he was hilarious in THE END. We all grow old, and we all run out of time.

Burt just ran out of time. Rest In Peace.

Now for some KSM chuckles. This one actually made me chuckle. Not sure what the reference to KSM is here but I couldn't resist putting this together when I thought about it on Saturday.

Maybe KSM was a stand in for Jackie Gleason. Who knows?
I do feel bad for Sally Fields who's stuck in the middle of this sick joke. Sorry friends, but that's how I roll with KSM.

KSM Photoshop of the Week
And so my friends,
please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a couple of case SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT VHS Tapes at Home Depot this week.

BEST OF LUCK Grandma and Grandpa!
We'll see you both in South Carolina!

I kept a daily BLOG when I surfed everyday during my
CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below)
Started on July 26, 2010 ENDED July 26, 2011.
A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- Mike Keefe NH 2002.
(Below) This is getting scary. 2002 is actually considered to be old. I mean it was 16 years ago. But I hardly think of anything in the 200's to be old. Just goes to show that I'm living in the dark ages. Regardless, I'm sure Mike is stoked to be in the Yesterday section. Video Frame Grab by RALPH

HIT THE BEACH XI from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

On August 31st, 2018 veterans from the WOUNDED WARRIOR Project, and members of their families, along with the NEW ENGLAND DISABLED SPORTS members and their families, also veterans from the MANCHESTER VA and their guests, descended onto North Beach in Hampton, NH. They were participating in the 11th Annual HIT THE BEACH Surf Outing. Sponsored by American Legion POST 35, Cinnamon Rainbows Surf Company, Zapstix, Summer Sessions, Pioneers, ESA-NNE, Fresh Valley Fruit, Hampton Fire Department, HPD, NH Parks & Recreation, Sheila Nudd, Tony Berardini, and hundreds of amazing volunteers. This video only captures a small part of this amazing day. Looking forward to 2019 and our 12th Annual HIT THE BEACH XII! Thank you all who participated in this wonderful day. Another August Rainbow Swell 8-22-18 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This was the end of a 4 day swell. And it ended with an amazing double rainbow. The usual suspects are in this web edit. QWILL provides the soundtrack with a tune called TELESCOPE. As always his music fits like a glove. The rainbow footage was shot by my buddy Tony on his cellphone.

SURFING WITH SMILES August 9th, 2018 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

What's the old saying? "Third time's a charm!" After the first two SWS were canceled because of severe weather, we would not be denied a 3rd time. And as the skies stayed clear, and the water remained super warm, and there was an actual fun little swell for the kids. This event, is something beyond special. Because there was only one this summer, I made this video a little longer than I typically would for one of my web edits. But it goes by very quickly. It's really only 7 minutes long. I used two songs by the super talented Ty Tabor.

I know, that can be an eternity for some of you who can't break away from your phones or social media for more than 5 minutes. But trust me on this, I PROMISE that social media will still be there when you are done watching this for that long 7 minutes. And I also promise that you will still be able to check all of your text messages, Instagram posts, all of your tweets, and snap chats, will all be there when you get back. TRUST ME!

Big thanks to Surfing with Smiles (Lindsey) all the sponsors and volunteers. Cinnamon Rainbows and Dave Cropper much love and respect to you. Captain of Captains Kevin "Doc Grondin". Thank you Jude Logue for the generous donation. Thank you Sheila Nudd for the Snow Cones. Thanks to all the surfers and their parents. And honestly, a BIG HUG and thanks to all you volunteers. See you all Next Year! Peace and Love.

Mahalo Johnny and your haole crew!

Chasing Down Hurricane Chris from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

On July 11th, 2018 a handful of NH surfers went chasing down the south swell generated by Hurricane Chris. We found what we went looking for. Though it took us longer than expected. We didn't arrive at our destination until 6:30PM. The boys got out of the water at 8:30PM. We went out to dinner and didn't get served until 10:00PM. We all arrived back home at 1:00AM. So was it worth it? Of course, it's surfing, you do what you have to do to get to the surf. And that's what we did. Surfers include: Kevin and Kody Grondin, Max Fatello, Ana Barend, and a handful of others.

Music is by the super talented Johnny A in his killer version of Play With Fire.
