The POPE! The POPE! The POPE! And a solid week's
worth of surf. In fact, it's breaking as I'm typing.

Did any of you happen to catch the Pope this past week? Apparently he's here in the US. He stopped by the Obama's place and then made his way north to NYC. Along the way he posed for about 900,000 selfies. Not joking.

Never seen anything quite like it.

They all say he is the "New Improved Modern Pope" and by the looks of things, that seems about fair. From Gays to Immigrants. Pope Francis is looking at things with a modern approach. He's like a rock star or movie star coming to town. It was crazy.



I mean he was on the cover of Rolling Stone? What? It was hard not to watch, as he kissed babies and posed for Selfies. His message was pretty simple. Be kind to one another and help lend a hand to those who need it. Sounds like good advice.

It was amusing to see how nervous some people were around him. Then it was equally amusing to see how the kids and teens flocked to him by the thousands. Of course, they all wanted selfies.

Somewhere in heaven my late father is smiling. And not because he was catholic. It's because he invented the selfie back in the 40's.



I guess it's common place now. Celebs take selfies of their selfie selves. Obama has posed for enough as well. I'm guessing Francis is the first Pope to do this. He's pretty tuned in to it. He knows exactly where to look. Heck, I always mess that up. I'm actually better with a real camera than I am with the cell phone camera.



I'm sure God is fine with all of this. Same with Jesus. In fact, I'm willing to bet that if Jesus were here today, he'd be posing with his flock taking selfies everywhere he went.



That's alotta selfies Pope Francis. Look he even does them mid flight. I'm telling you the man is a jet-setter Pope. I would imagine his bodyguards are a bit tired of the never ending selfies.



Man, it's all over the world. Think of how many people all over the world have pics of themselves with the Pope. If you had to guess, how many selfies of the Pope, are out there? Think about it.

Facebook. Twitter. Instagram.

There must be hundreds of thousands. Perhaps millions. I wouldn't be surprised if some of you reading this blog may have a few yourselves. Especially you guys in NY. I know there are hundreds of New Yorkers who read this blog every week.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
The good news about the Pope coming to the US is, he put TRUMP on page two. Ha! Can't you just picture TRUMP saying "I'm more popular than the Pope. Just look at the polls. I'm not gonna apologize for that. I believe that I am more popular than the Pope! And the people will back me up on this."



Poor Donnie. He must be so uptight that all this attention is being directed away from him. And to think the Pope was in NYC, and didn't pick up the phone to call him. Francis had a headache just thinking about TRUMP, and The Donald was trying to use mind over matter to make the Pope call.



Sorry TRUMP. Better luck next time.

When in doubt it's time get out and kiss some babies! Next to taking selfies, Pope Francis loves kissing babies while walking along or riding in his motorcade. I bet he's kissed a million babies. I wonder if there are any stats on this?

That's one lucky baby. Of course the parents are beyond ecstatic.
I mean can you imagine your child being kissed by the Pope? Those babies are set for life. Nothing can harm them now.



Not all the babies are happy about the Pontiff kissing them.
And sometimes the Pope is not happy with some babies.



Can you believe this? I mean Good Lord. Is there nothing that Terrorist Khaliddy "Sheik Yer Booty" Mohummed won't do?

Please my friends, enjoy the weekly humiliation of the master mind behind the September 11th 2001 attacks. The man who was behind the killing of 3,000 innocent civilians. The number two big dog of Al Qeada. Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. And lastly, please pray for Dave O'Connor. A good man, a great mentor to so many kids, and a wonderful school principal.

Yesterday- Ron Freeman early 70's North Shore Hawaii.
 (Below) This is a very cool photo. It's a pic of the "Maine Man" at the "Big O" back in the day, surfing on Hawaii's North Sore. Ron is a great photographer and he's still a very good surfer. He has a fluid style and he is a pleasue to watch. I've had the pleasure of surfing with Ron out west, and I'm looking forward to sharing some waves with him again this coming winter.

And we don't care if you shoot pics with with your cellphones. I mean it. Most of the images you see on the news and on the Internet were shot with them Smart Ass Phones. So shoot and ask questions later.
