September 13th, 2015 The RUN is 18 out of 18 Weeks

Waist high or better, at least once a week. There were waist high waves on Friday morning and Saturday morning.

The 14th Anniversary of 9-11. The Patriots and Tom Brady
are back with a vengeance. The 2nd annual Mike Colby
fund raiser and some fun surf.

The faithful five. That's what I call the group of us who meet every 9-11 at the spot we were at on that terrible day. Most of you are old enough to remember that day. And if you're old enough to remember, you know exactly where
you were and what you were doing.

Surfers up and down the East Coast were enjoying the clean lines from Hurricane Erin. Perfect surf that day. Just flawless waves being pumped in from Erin. Not a cloud in the sky. The ground swell from Erin had us all jumping up and down like over reacting groms on Red Bull. Except, I don't think Red Bull was around then.

In any event, there were a bunch of us that were out at the points when the news trickled in. You have heard this before I'm sure, but it's true. "That day changed our world forever."

The Faithful Five are from left to right; Tony Berardini, Jack Keefe, Johnny Meehan, Markey J, and myself. We started doing this gathering the very next year. On September 11, 2002 we all just showed up at the time the first plane hit the
north tower in NYC. And I mean we just showed up. No one had planned the meeting, no one had any communication, we just showed up. Well long story short, we have kept this tradition going ever since.14 years strong.

Some of you may, or may not know, that I was the CDR of the American Legion Post 35 here in Hampton. I served 13 years as Commander when I stepped down last year. I am still involved with the Post but have stepped back to let the new vets have a go at keeping our Veteran's post one of the most well respected Legion Posts in all of New England. The GWOT memorial monument was my baby. I spearheaded the task of erecting a monument
on our grounds. I still help out each and every 9-11. I do the promo work, programs, banner, etc etc. This year we added just one name. But if you ask any of us, it's one name too many.

The engraver over my shoulder engraving the 65th name on our
monument. The new name was William Blake Marston. A NAVY SEAL. He joins two other SEALS on our monument. Dan Healy from Exeter and Nate Hardy from Durham. There is a banner hanging in the post that has all 65 faces of the fallen. The three SEALS all have beards. And each one looks as bad ass as you would expect from a SEAL. Warriors. In fact, every name on the monument are Warriors. It's just that SEALS are...well you know. Hard core Warriors.

Last night in Newburyport Mass The Nor'easters playing at the 2nd annual Michael Colby Scholarship
Fund raiser. The Easters kicked it off following the Fabulous Super Sonics.

My brother Johnny was doing OT last night. Playing with two bands.

Alter Ego closed the night at the Elks Hall. It was for a good cause.
It is a bitter sweet time for my family. Michael was my nephew who died last year of a heroin overdose. I fucking hate heroin, and I really hate the lowlife scumbags who sell it to anyone they can find that is weak enough to use it. And according to the statistics quite a few people here on the seacoast and beyond are that weak. There
have been so many heroin related deaths in the
last few years it is clearly an epidemic.

If you know someone who is struggling with this poison get them help. Don't give up on them. They need help. That's my sister above reading a poem she wrote about her only son Michael. The poem also covered the fundraiser.

Straight off the Easters gig, I'm playing this Thursday September 17th, 2015 with my bass player Rich Appel. I always have fun playing at Flatbread. Hell, I could walk to this gig.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
The continuing BS for the Patriots seems like it just won't go away. The Pats came out Firing on Thursday night as they kicked the shit out of Pittsburg. Brady threw FOUR TD passes. *I hope Roger was watching. If he was, I bet he puked and wet his pants. So freaking stupid. The whole INFLATE GATE is a joke. But then again, so are these clever photoshop posters. Enjoy.

Truth is, the Patriots will be facing this kind of absurdity all year.
At home and on the road. So we best get used to it.

Speaking of absurd. Did you all hear what TRUMP said about Carley Firorina? To quote DUMP "Look at that face. Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president?" Hey TRUMPET I can't imagine your face and dead fox on your head being the next president. This bonehead loves women? Are you shitting me? When is this joke going to end?

Our boy KSM was also insulted. Not sure if you know this or not, but KSM has been toying with the idea of trans-gender, or at the very least, cross dressing. Here he is dressing like Carley.

GITMO's sex offenders are urging KSM to go all the way. I guess he has taken up with a couple of guards and some axe murderers who want him to be a bit more soft. Apparently the hairy beast is even too much for some of these hardened criminals. What do
you guys think?

Our favorite Terrorist Khaliddy "Sheik Yer Booty" Mohummed is
all about going the soft route

Please my friends, enjoy the weekly humiliation of the master mind behind the September 11th 2001 attacks. The man who was behind the killing of 3,000 innocent civilians. The number two big dog of AlQeada. Khalid Sheik Mohammed.

* Note to self, must pick up a case of hair dye at
Home Depot.

Happy Birthday Mackey V Sept 14th, 2015!
Happy Birthday Michael Colby Sept 14th, 2015
*Facebook no longer gives me the weekly birthday
updates. They only send me daily ones. Sorry.

Please keep my sister Evamarie in your thoughts and prayers
and continue to send positive thoughts to our dear friend Meghan Evans and family, same with surf photographer Andrew Rebeiro and my dear friend Greg Brooks. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. And lastly, please pray for Dave O'Connor. A good man, a great mentor to so many kids, and a wonderful school principal.

Please add them all to your prayer list. Thank you.

* Thanks to all who prayed and sent positive vibes for me. They worked.

Please Support ALL The photographers who contribute to Ralph's Pic Of The Week every week for the last 9 years. **Think about BUYING a HIGH RES Photo from any of the weeks on RPOTW.

A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- MVF age 6 at the WALL. 1997.
(Below) Tomorrow the 14th is Mackey's 24th birthday. Too bad if he's pissed at me for running this photo. I remember this day like it was yesterday. It was the first and only Fatello Family Beach day with both of my parents. My dad became too ill to continue this new tradition (he passed in 2000), and my mother was his constant aid. But the funny thing about this photo is, Mackey was still trying to figure out if he was going to be a regular foot, or a goofy foot. I was pushing him towards regular foot (yes I am a regular foot). But as most of you know, he ended up being a goofyfoot after all.

SEPTEMBER 11th, 2001

Once a year I post this clip. It is the raw footage from the NH surfer's
perspective on 9-11

This is the actual footage I shot the morning of September 11th, 2001. There was a hurricane off the coast, Hurricane ERIN, and we had a perfect 6' swell running. There was not a single cloud in the sky...

The footage is of a handful of local surfers listening to the radio broadcast of Howard Stern, as perfect waves peeled off in the background. We had friends flying to Mexico that morning, and we were all concerned.

Later we found out that our good friend Bob Hayes was on the first plane out of Boston. Flt 11 that hit the North Tower. Bob Hayes, a surfer, was married with two young sons. And another surfer, then Angela Veltsos, lost her brother Tommy on the same flight.

None of us who were around that day, will ever forget it. This is the first time this has been broadcast anywhere.

The camera work is jumpy and my voice sounds stressed, but this is what happened in our world on that dark day, 10 years ago today.

May the souls of all who died on that day, and those who have died since, fighting in the Global War on Terrorism Rest In Peace.

Ralph
