Happy Thanksgiving and be thankful you don't live in Buffalo
and how about Seaweed missing the swell on 11-18-14?

I don't know about you guys but I am sooooo THANKFUL I don't live in Buffalo. I like snow as much as the next guy, but this? No sir. Not yet. Not in November. Is this Global Warming? Or is this something else? Hard to figure out what the hell is going on in the world of weather.

But one thing's for sure. I am Thankful I live here in New England.

This is a nightmare scene. Look at this!!! Hello...?????
Are you freaking kidding me? Get my ass outta here!

They are forecasting as of 11-20-14 an additional 48 more inches. That's crazy. I'd move. I'd be out of there as soon as I was able.

What did we do before cellphones? This poor guy at least can call for help. He should be on the phone with airline representative. But then again, all flights are canceled. DOH! Talking to my buddy on the west coast yesterday he was surprised we had no snow.

Funny how so many of the native Californian's think we live in Iceland. Look, I know damn well what's coming. But it won't be here until the first of the year. Meanwhile, lets count our blessings.

I still wouldn't want to be this guy.

OK so last week I toted the virtues and accuracy of Magic Seaweed. And I admit they are the most accurate of all the surf forecasters. But they missed this swell on Tuesday.

In fact, most people missed it.

When I saw the ocean on Monday, and knew that it was going to clean up on Tuesday, it was a no brainer. There would be surf.

Yes the wind blew hard out of the west and basically killed the swell by the end of the day. But before it's demise, the beaches were firing like an aqua marine green wave machine. It was relentless.

This was the surf on Tuesday, November 18th, 2014.

It was bigger than 1 foot that's for sure. Which is what the forecast predicted. I'm sure it's a semi crap shoot (surf forecasting) even with all the data available. But I also know that most people rely on these forecasts to get out of work, school, and other responsibilities.

Gee we sound like criminals or at the very least delinquents.

Regardless, I shot a handful of people out at the Wall that morning and watched so many empty waves go by, that it was not worth mentioning to anyone. Except I'm writing about it now. All these
waves you see here went by without a rider. Empty. Not big. But
pretty damn clean and semi hollow. Waist to chest with the
occasional head high set.

Not trying to be hurtful here, just reporting the facts.

But if you were one of the lucky few, you know exactly what I'm talking about. Tuesday November 18th, 2014 was a gift. Be thankful.

"Checking The Surf In Person Heals All Wounds"

"Ed's Corner" pic this week is from December 18, 2013.
This week's surfer is Ryan Jackson. When I posted this last year I said it was someone else. Ryan pointed it out to me and well, I'm making good on it now. Albeit almost a year later.
I will be having a whole winter gallery of Ed's pics in my COLD
COAST movie coming this Fall.
Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog.

Portions of the eventual DVD proceeds will go to the

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
The big story this week is the President dealing with the Immigration Reform bill on his own. Executive action 101.
He's the president and he has the power. It's the old
"My way or the highway". Though I have to admit, I agreed
with some of things he proposed. Not all, but some. The
i
dea of the GOP launching a law suit against him is silly.

The real absurd news this week is Charles Manson is getting married. The 80 year old loony bird is marrying 26 year old Afton Burton who goes by the name "Star". Cute. He is allowed up to 10 guests to attend the blissful event. I wonder who will be on that guest list. You can't make this shit up.

You can however make this up. See below.

Please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001. Here we see KSM as he was asked to be the BEST Man at Charlie's wedding.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're so very welcome KSM fans.
* Note to self: Must pick up a case of confetti
at Home Depot this week.

GO Patriots! Welcome the Detroit Lions into the REAL Lion's Den. Let them experience what the Bears, Broncos, and Colts just had.

HAPPY THANKSGIVING EVERYONE!

Please continue to send positive thoughts and prayers
to our dear friend Debra White and family. And to my sister Evamarie Urban. Please add them all to your prayer list.

Please Support ALL The photographers who contribute to Ralph's Pic Of The Week every

My CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below
on this page.) Started on July 26, 2010 ENDED July 26, 2011.
A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- William Haffenreffer on the North Shore 1978.
(Below) Most of you know that there is another North Shore besides the one
on Oahu. And you also know that there is some pretty decent surf down there.
So I am not going to say where this is, but I will say who it is. This is Dr William Haffenreffer. I knew William back in the day before he and his family moved north. This particular break was great for goofyfooters who like kissing the rocks. I did not. I reluctantly surfed here but it was never one of my favorite spots. I had others down there. But William liked surfing here as you can all
plainly see.

We welcome all Surf Related pics from our Readers. Just make sure they are at least 900 pixels wide. If you have any OLD photos of local New England surfers and or of local New England surfing, we would love to see them and share them with our readers.

We can scan them for you. And we get them back to you undamaged. Trust me. We can do this...people love the older stuff. So if you have any, please send 'em along. If you have prints/slides we can scan them for you.

And we don't care if you shoot pics with with your cellphones. I mean it. Most of the images you see on the news and on the Internet were shot with them Smart Ass Phones. So shoot and ask questions later.

REX February 18-19th-2014 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

OK, so REX was not anything close to the previous winter storms as far as surf goes. However, REX was the prettiest damn storm we've had all winter. It was a literal Winter Wonderland out there. Just so incredibly breathtakingly beautiful. If you love the look of snow in the woods, and on the coast, then REX was an A plus storm. So damn pretty out there.

But the surf was rather small. It didn't make a difference to the three surfers I shot today. Johnny Reynolds, James Morse, and Stevie O'Hara surfed the waist to chest high waves at the Wall, and made the best of it.

The music is once again by my nephew Jesse Ciarmataro (QWILL) and it really moves the visual nicely. This clip will be part of the THE COLD COAST the latest documentary from Surf Free Or Die.
