May 22nd, 2016 The RUN is 27 out of 27 Weeks.
Waist high or better at least once a week.
We had waist to chest high waves May 21-2016. |

McCarthy Strong, RIP Kyle Jameson, the week of local music,
a waist to chest high swell on the last day of the week to keep
the run going on 27 weeks. *And there's more surf coming! |

Just when I think I'm getting better at hearing bad news, I hear something that catches me off guard, and causes me to stop, and shake my head. Life can be so fleeting. We all know that. And we all know, that sometimes it just doesn't seem fair. So when I heard about local Hampton Firefighter/Paramedic Kyle Jameson passing away last Sunday at age 34, it was a shocking bit of news.
Married with a year old son, it just seemed so damn unfair.
Diagnosed with cancer April 2015 he had gone through a series of treatments that seemed to be working. There were countless fund raisers to help him and his young family out. And his brothers and sisters in the Fire Department did everything humanly possible to lend a hand. The Fire Department is a close knit family. And it was never more apparent than when Kyle got sick. It was so awe inspiring to read and witness what they did for the Jameson family.
And when he passed away. They stepped up to a whole other level.
Those guys are the best. They mean what they say, and always do what is right. And they did right by Kyle and his family.
Chief Jamie Ayotte at HFD called Kyle a "Warrior." And by God he was.
He fought as hard as anyone could possibly fight, to beat that disease.
Rest In Peace Kyle. Your brothers and sisters will take care of your family.
I suppose it's Ok to say that cancer sucks. On the same day they had the funeral for Kyle, there was another event going on at the exact same time. I'm talking about the McCarthy Strong 5k Walk For Cancer. This wonderful event
is the 2nd annual walk in loving memory of Stephen McCarthy.
Steve was a great guy. Anyone who knew him will tell you that. Married with three kids and just a super immediate family of siblings who adored him. For me personally, he was always in a good mood. We always had a good laugh going through all the stages of life we shared. Surfing, marriage, raising a family, the pain of losing a parent. All of that. He left here too soon.
But he has not been forgotten. And this walk was evident of that.
And for all of the seacoast victims of cancer. Lord knows there are too many.
I was touched to see my mother and sister's photos on the wall. Cancer took them both. Like it's taken so many others we know. The list is never ending.
So many lives snuffed out by that terrible disease. So many friends, family and loved ones. Gone way too soon. But as always, out of tragedy comes that bright shining light of love and support. And that is never more evident than here on this seacoast community. They came out in droves on Saturday.
It was great to see everyone. The McCarthy's are a special breed of family here on the seacoast. And we were all there to support them.
There's a whole gallery of pics I shot on my I-phone down in the gallery section.
This past week was not all sadness. There were some uplifting highlights
during the week. Staring with my favorite new Big band. MIKE GIRARD'S BIG SWINGING THING THING. I wrote a review on the show at the palace in Manchester, NH. Just click on this pic and check it out.
They will be playing at the BLUE OCEAN on Salisbury Beach
on July 8th, 2016. You do NOT want to miss this show. Trust me.
And on Wednesday at the North Beach Bar & Grille, we went out to see everyone's favorite duo, Mel & John. These two beach icons have been playing great music for years. A lovely married couple, who have been together forever raising a wonderful family, while making people smile and dance for as long as I can remember.
Talent is of no short order with these two. Mel has an amazing voice and stage presence, and John is such a smooth guitarist, who can also sing. We had so much fun listening to them play, from their vault of songs, that we are going to make it a point to see them more often.
They are at the North Beach Bar & Grille on the corner of Ocean Blvd and
High street in Hampton, every Wednesday night.
Look everybody it's the Hampton's version of the NAKED COWBOY.
This guy showed up at the Wall in a speedo playing a 12 string guitar
with only six strings. Terence was on hand to meet and greet the freak.
*Note to readers. If any of you ever spots something like this, it is imperative that you contact me. This kind of shit needs to be documented. Not just stills, but on video. I'm sure you will agree. What's particularly funny is, the Freak's headband, matches Terence's shorts. Are we seeing the birth of a new duo? Will these two be hitting the beach scene? Should Mel & John be concerned?
My guess is no. This is exactly what it looks like.
Call me next time T-bone. This shit needs to be documented. On video.

I think this is Julie Jakoboski. I'm not 100% sure. But it sure looks like her style. This was taken in December of 2013. With all the longboarding pics I've been posting, and the two videos I produced last week, I thought this pic to be a fitting Ed's Corner this week.
To see more of Ed's pics just scroll through the archives. He has shot so many pics for the blog. Be sure and pick up a copy of the COLD COAST and check out Ed's own gallery.
Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog. Photo by Ed O'Connell

Some images from the Ralph & Rich show at Flatbread in Hampton this past Thursday night.
It's hard to believe that Rich and I have played together for as many years as we have. From 1986 to 2016. That's a longtime. We actually opened up for ELP at the Meadowlands in NY. That was something. 25,000 people. It was scary but fun. What a night that was for us.
From 25,000 people to 25 people, we still have a blast. There's something special about playing music that is just so much fun. Especially, when you play for friends and family. That's always the best feeling.
My wife Cory and our latest granddaughter Brylee, who turns 1 today, before they headed down to Flatbread to see Gramps play for their very first time. Brylee and her older sister Avery have heard me sing and play my acoustic guitar around the house. I make up songs about them, and just have a lot of fun. Having them both there was such a treat for me.
Now I know where those hand-prints came from. Avery Marina.
Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
So the powerful NRA has endorsed TRUMP. It's not like they had a choice. But the marriage of these two seems thinly veiled. I don't believe for a second that they are both on the same page. For the NRA it's the lesser of two evils.
They sure as hell don't want this one.
Hey GOOD NEWS! Looks like the TOP DOG Taliban leader has been snuffed out of the playing fields that is Terrorism.
Ole Mullough Mohummed Mansour is swimming with the rats in hell.
You have to think, they must always be shocked when they realize that there ain't no 72 virgins waiting for them. Ha.
KSM Photoshop of the Week
Now it's no secret that KSM is a big, if NOT bigger ham, than TRUMP. He loves the spotlight. Ever since his capture in 2003 his whole motivation has been to step out into the limelight.
Here we see KSM pretending to be a candidate
sucking up to the NRA. I don't believe they fell for his phony promises.
As always... take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).
*Note to self must pick up a case of shotgun shells at Home Depot this week.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Peter Stokes May 22nd, 2016!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Brylee May 22nd, 2016
RIP Kyle Jameson HFD Sunday May 15, 2016

Please Pray for a NH Icon from the Seacoast. North Beach Matriarch Jane McCarthy is needing some love and prayers. Jane is the mother of Duffy McCarthy and the whole McCarthy clan. She's been a fixture on the Wall forever.
You all have seen her, you might not know her, but trust me, she has seen you all. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfer Terry Morrison and his family.
Also please pray for Marine SSGT George Masten. A combat Marine who served in Korea and Vietnam. He was awarded the purple heart for wounds received in Vietnam in 1967. George is battling cancer. PLEASE say a prayer for him.

My CATCH A WAVE FOR MOLLY. (Click On the Banner below

A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days. |
Yesterday- Johnny Sav at North Beach, Hampton, NH
circa late 60's early 70's.
(Below) We were all young once. And Johnny Sav was one of the icons at the Wall in the 60's and 70's. *Note NO LEASH. And walking with confidence. He looks like our version of a Hawaiian Beach boy. Johnny Sav had his own original style when it came to riding waves. He had this ultra cool hand jive thing going on, and it was easy to pick him out. I don't know how many times I've asked him and his late brother for old surfing photos. 100's I'm sure. But for some reason as of late, there have been more and more old pics of the Savvy boys popping up on facebook. Hey, I'll take 'em any way I can get them.

The Beautiful Images from Tavarua.
May , 2016 Photos by Peter Stokes
(Above) We have all seen the pics of Cloud Break. But not many of us have had the chance to surf there. Peter Stokes has been going to Fiji every Spring for many many years. This year is no different. Except for the fact that Peter turns 67 today. Not sure how many of you ever thought about surfing Cloud Break at age 67. But for Peter? There's no quit in him. He will keep going until he can't go anymore. I don't see that changing much in the next 10 years.
