Mothers Day and Mother Ocean....

I tried googling the origin of the "Mother Ocean" title and came up with nothing. I know there must be a first time used some where out there in cyber land. I mean, we all know the term "Mother Ocean" as we all know "Mother Nature" or "Mother Earth". I was just curious as to where that came from.

With this being Mothers Day and all, I wanted to know.

One thing's for certain, Mother Ocean has not changed much since I was first introduced to her. And that would be true with
all of you. She looks the same. She acts the same. She is for all intents and purposes, ageless. She is a timeless beauty.

Case in point. The photo below was taken in 1986.

How do I know? I took the photo. At the Wall. I was using a
NIKONIS and I have at least a dozen or so more similar empty waves pics from this session.

The photo below was taken recently.

Can you tell which wave is older? Because I can't and I took
both photos. So, I think we can all clearly agree, that Mother Ocean has not aged a single day since the first wave spawned from the ocean deep and expired on some distant shore.
She still looks great to me.

Happy Mothers Day Mother Ocean. We all love you.

I was thinking all this week of how truly amazing Mothers are.
I mean they do so much work day in and day out, and get little recognition. This one day a year? Not enough in my mind. I know most of you truly appreciate your mothers and love them to death. I was just thinking of how hard it is to be a mom. I mean it's a full time job and then some.

My poor mother had six kids plus my father to feed and take care of. No wonder things got a little testy at times in my home. Eight people living in one small Ranch, with one full bath? Hello? That's trouble in any world. Yet somehow we all managed. We all went off to school, and my dad went off to work each day. And my mom took on other jobs to help supplement the family income.

But it had to have been hard. Good lord how could it not be?

The photo below really struck me the other day. My father took it. It's a photo of me at Logan Airport leaving for Vietnam. That's my little brother David standing next to my mother. I was thinking, this might have been the last time my parents ever saw me alive. Think about that scenario for a moment.

My poor Mother and father saying goodbye and not knowing if the next time they saw me, I would either be in a box, or standing upright. Turns out it was somewhere in between.
Because, I was never the same again

Mothers have gone through a lot for us. And they still do.

My sister sent me this photo (below) this week. It is a photo of my late grandmother, my late uncle, and my late father. I had never seen it before. I guess my cousin sent it to my sister, who then sent it out to all of us siblings. It's a funny feeling, seeing
an old photo like this for the first time of loved ones who have been gone from this earth for quite sometime.

eva

My dad's tie seems to be in his food. Man they all look so healthy and happy. My grandmother could barely speak English. But boy could that woman ever cook. She was something else again in that kitchen. Took many a recipe with her to the grave. Noni,
you were the best.

I hope all of your sons are with you today. All four of them.

This woman below is my late mother Eva.

eva story

When my grandmother passed away, my mother became the new Matriarch, and the new head chef in the kitchen. Though she too took many a recipe to the grave with her. I know what they were thinking. If they were to hold onto those wonderful recipes, it would keep us all coming back for the holidays.
I have to say, it worked.

Happy Mothers Day Mom. I miss you. We all miss you.

I do know that my three children are very lucky to have the mom they have. She has been the best mom for the last 23 years. I mean the best. She has been there with them all every step of the way. I know how much they love her and appreciate what she has done for them.

Now if they could just pick up after themselves and put the dirty dishes in the dishwasher, things would be even better.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

I am not going to give much time to the horror story about the devil who kidnapped those three young girls and abused them for over 10 years. I will say this though. Why should we waste a single tax dollar on this demon? I mean really? Who among us thinks he should be given a fair trial? Fair? What does fair have to do with this low life ?

What was fair about what he did to those young girls?

This is a time for swift and violent justice. No lawyers. No trial. No insanity pleas. Just do away with him. Right Now! With complete and total conviction. Just do it.

I did want to have a little Mothers Day humor with our boy this week. Simply put the mouse/cursor over the image below and see how much KSM and his young mother look alike. It's amazing huh?

Poor KSM. I know Al Qeada and the Taliban are going to be upset with me again. Though I am willing to take their disdain in the name of blog humor. It's the least I can do for you fans of KSM humiliation.

So enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind who killed 3,000 innocent Americans on September 11, 2001. *Put the mouse on the pic and have some fun with it.

*Note to self: Must pick up a case of Nair at Home Depot!

Yesterday- From 1984. Caley Brentwood Snow.
(Below) This is a photo of my old dog Caley. She was an English Setter. She lived to be 16 years old. She was born on May 10th, 1974 and passed away in April of 1990. And yes, she could surf. Not very good, but with my assistance she could lie down on my old Harbour Rapier and ride a wave. And she was happy about it.

followed by a slight seabreeze, and then glassing off again at dusk. Every day.
So many people asking me if this has ever happened before. My gut instinct is to
say yes it has. A few times. But this run has been pretty special. It seems that
everyone scored during this run. Sunday May 5th, 2013.

(Above) This is a special moment for anyone. But for surfers? It's really special. Dolphins seem to get what we do. They are really better surfers than us. And the fact that they follow us around. Play in the waves with us and basically do whatever they want to do because, well, they can. I love dolphins. We all love dolphins. April 24th, 2013.
Photo by The Phantom *Click on the photo above to see the Whole gallery.

(Above)
The Phantom and his crew buzz around the California coast with the same ease as the Dolphins above. These little boats allow them access to any break on the coast. No wonder the Dolphins follow them around. Hell, they are almost one and the same. I have been watching and reading about these stealth exploits for years now. And I have been out there to witness their covert missions.

Some of the locals scorn at these boats when they come buzzing up the coast like a swarm of hornets. But to a single man (and woman) they are both courteous and respectful to all
in the water. And most times they will pass on certain spots if there is already a handful of riders.

It's all about the sharing with these guys. Surfing with friends and dolphins.

Besides, they NEVER get skunked. If the surf and t
ide is not favorable they simply pull up the anchor and move to a better location. They are living the life of surf adventurers every week when most of us can only dream of such a thing. And I say good for them.

Hit the gas Jack, we're going surfing- Phantom style!!

YESTERDAY NINETEEN EIGHTY SIX-New Hampshire Part III

This is another clip using the old Super 8mm movie camera. It's from 1986 shot in NH and what's interesting about this clip is the surfing by Dean Randazzo. He and a few of his friends came up to visit us and our waves during a particular big hurri swell in 86. The results were Dean was killing it out there. And he was surfing these breaks for the very first time. It was a "Watch and Learn" session for the local rippers. And boy did we ever get schooled.

Still our boys put on a good show as well. Stevie O'Hara and Kevin Grondin made the best of their hometown local knowledge. Stevie get's the longest barrel of the entire session.

The music is by genius guitar player singer songwriter NUNO...who is, and should always be a ROCK STAR. His band at this time was called DramaGods.

Nuno you are one unique individual.

Crackie's still on a retreat with this being the start of our 10th year. He's actually visiting with his mother this weekend. She's 139 years old. Truth be told, we are in contract negotiations and quite frankly, he's being unreasonable. So until we can reach an agreement with his agent. We are putting him on ice for the time being.

However, if you have a question for Crackie, no matter how
stupid, or absurd, please send it here...crackie@adlantic.com

You can also check Crackie out on Facebook. You should Friend Him...though there are no guarantees that he'll be nice to you.

Today
May 12th, 2013 "One last embrace... "

(Above) I know this has nothing to do with surfing or Mother's Day, but this image of this couple embracing in their final act before death was too powerful not to share. They both died in last week's building collapse in Bangladesh. No one knew if they were lovers, or married. But this photo speaks volumes of love, comfort, and the final resignation of the inevitable coming of death.
