March coming in like a Lion. But will he go out like a Lamb?

I'm not sure if cold temps are considered coming in like a Lion or not. We did get a few more inches on top of what we already have. I guess we are very close to breaking the snowfall record. Oh boy!

Should we be hoping for more snow to beat this? Ugh.

This is a photo that our friend Johnny Grasso shot this week.
Can't say I've ever done this, and I don't think I would want to find out what it's like. But Johnny got to experience the slide. Then the very next day the Delta plane slid off the runway at Laguardia.

If you have flown enough times in your life, you have at one point in your flying time thought about going down. We all have. We just don't talk about it out loud. But you and I both know, that when you hear a strange noise, or there's some erratic turbulence, we all tighten the seatbelt a little tighter.

This mishap below must of been somewhat harrowing. Mere feet from going into the icy drink, the passengers had to get out by sliding off the wing. Then they had to walk back to the runway where they were met by buses. DELTA has said that everyone's flight would be paid for. Why is this happening you ask yourself? Simple.

The skies and runways are too damn crowded these days.

There's literally not enough room for these large flying pieces of
metal. The fact that there are not more of these accidents is a testament to how good the air traffic controllers are, and how tuned in the pilots are. Otherwise we would be seeing more of these nightmares on TV.

Hey enough of that negative news for now. Local surfer/comic
Jimmy Dunn has two shows coming up that you don't want to miss.

The first one is in Beverly MA...did you know that Beverly Hills was named after Beverly MA? It's 100% true. Google it. Any way, Beverly is a short drive away no matter which direction you are coming from. Unless of course you are coming from the east, but even then it's close. Beverly is right on the water. Turns out Jimmy and I spent
some time in Beverly. Mass that is.

This is a great promo shot of Jimmy. I'm guessing it was a McCarthy shoot. By the way, the McCarthy's are not done yet. You all just stand by and we will let you know when and where.

Next up is the ROAST of Jimmy Dunn. Wow a roast. You know you have made it big when people come and watch you get slammed by quick witted comics and friends. My guess is Jimmy will more than enough return fire. Oh boy. This is going to be one hell of a night.

This is one cool poster...wait did I just write that? It's a great poster. Jimmy standing on a surfboard Mic in hand and getting grilled...you know roasted. Mark it down kids. Saturday, March 28th, 2015. Click on the image above to get more info.

Back to negative news. Number 75 has left the building!

Once again the fans of the New England Patriots will say goodbye to one of the favorite players to ever wear the red, white, and blue team uniform. Vince Wilfork. Number 75 Nose tackle on the D line. Team captain who has stopped more runs than anyone who has played that position. The team decided not to pick up his $4million dollar option. So unless he comes back for less money, in all likelihood, Vince is done with Krafts, Belichick, and Brady.

This is a bitter pill to swallow. At least he got two rings. His rookie year with the Patriots and this year. Not bad Vince. Not bad.

The big man was loved by all. Vince Wilfork, a bigger than life gentle giant off the field but a monster on the field, will always be a Patriot in the hearts of all the fans.

Look, Jimmy Dunn with Vince back in the day.

These guys are both over 6 feet. But I think Vince has Jimmy
by a few pounds. Am I right Jimmy?

More sports on a local level. Surf family Grondin at St A's in a proud moment when senior Kody Grondin posed with the family on senior night. The team went on to win the championship. I've watched Kody play since he was a little mite in Exeter. He ended up being a true power source for his team. Fast, quick, and strong. He was a force to be reckoned with. We are all proud of you Kody. Now you can spend more time in the water.

Smutty Nose Brewing Company is sponsoring the show on Thursday. Come on down for free samples of their latest Emotional Rescue..

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

ISIS has stooped to a new low. I know, it does not seem possible, but they have. Incredibly, they have taken to destroying historical artifacts and ancient ruins in Northern Iraq. Just when you think you have seen it all, ISIS shows another horrible evil side to their march to madness.

Claiming that God spoke to them and told them to destroy these priceless ancient ruins.

I asked last week how long can this go on? I'm sure the world was asking the same thing in the late 30's and certainly by 1940 when Hitler and the NAZI war machine was racing across Europe basically doing the same thing. It wasn't until the Japanese bombed Pearl Harbor that America finally woke up and joined in the fight in Europe to stop that madness. Had we all acted sooner we may have saved a significant number of civilians, and most notably, the Jews from certain death. When will we learn?

More good news. Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau
has pledged his allegiance to ISIS. Google this clown to see
what he's all about.

Netanyahu addressing the world last week. Saying of IRAN fighting ISIS "The enemy of your enemy is your enemy!" Much like Russia fighting the Germans in WWII.

Rob Lowe is a funny person. But he did not find this very funny last week. And honestly? Neither did I. This is GloZell. A large African American who's claim to fame is doing stuff like this. Filling a bathtub full of Fruit Loops and milk and eating it. Her now famous greeting is "Is you okay? Is you?" The fact that POTUS had an official meeting with her and snubbed the prime minister of Israel last week was not very presidential. Not in my eyes.

50 years ago. The march in Selma Alabama. Dr. Martin Luther King called this day Bloody Sunday "The greatest confrontation
in the South so far..."

Today, President Obama marching on the same streets and bridge as they did 50 years ago. This was a very moving day. Exceptionally poignant, and a proud moment for President Obama and all Americans who want Freedom and Democracy.

My weekly humiliation of KSM knows no boundaries.
Here we see KSM taking a selfie with GloZell, POTUS, and the other YouTube sensations

So once again, please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're welcome KSM fans.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of funky cell phone covers at Home Depot this week.

And Happy Birthday to all you March Birthdays!

Yesterday- Surfer's Wedding circa 1980's
(Below) Can you spot me in this pic? Look hard. Still can't see me?Truth be told, I was really not there because I was not invited. But I was cool with it, because the day of this wedding, there was huge surf. And let's face it, as a surfer I would of been forced to make that call. Should I surf, or attend the wedding? Thankfully the decision was made for me a few months earlier. I love Tim and Donna. And I used to kid with them for years about me checking my mail to see if the invite showed up. I suppose this is one way to say I was there. Photoshop! Click on the image to see the real pic.

We welcome all Surf Related pics from our Readers. Just make sure they are at least 900 pixels wide. If you have any OLD photos of local New England surfers and or of local New England surfing, we would love to see them and share them with our readers.

We can scan them for you. And we get them back to you undamaged. Trust me. We can do this...people love the older stuff. So if you have any, please send 'em along. If you have prints/slides we can scan them for you.

And we don't care if you shoot pics with with your cellphones. I mean it. Most of the images you see on the news and on the Internet were shot with them Smart Ass Phones. So shoot and ask questions later.

Lars Hamilton on a large Sunset Beach wave. I'm sure Lars is buzzing over this trip and certainly this photo. I remember as a young man seeing myself on a large tropical wave. It blew my mind. But I said young man. Lars is still somewhat of a Grom. Clearly his surfing has matured, but he's still a kid. To have surfed Sunset at his age? That's great. I'm as stoked for Lars as he is about this trip. March 2015.

FEBRUARY 19th, 2015

70 years ago today the Marines landed on Iwo Jima. February 19th, 1945. My uncle was there and my dad was on another Island in the South Pacific. I shot this video today of my son Max and the music is by my nephew Jesse and my brother John is playing the guitar solo. It dawned on me as I stood on that cold beach today, that had my uncle been killed, or my father died over there, none of this video would have happened today. But they survived and as a result this clip is here for all to see. This clip is dedicated to the 6,281 Marines who died on Iwo Jima and to all the men and women who fought in WWII.

God Bless them all.

Ralph

WINTER STORM NEPTUNE February 15th, 2015

OK the next winter storm on tap was this bad boy. NEPTUNE. He dumped another foot and a half on our sorry asses. The wind was howling like I'd never seen it. White out conditions in the bright sunlight was weird. The surf was marginal but unique due to the cold, snow, and wind. Wes and Max made the best of it out there. The song is ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER Live with myself and my nephew Jesse. Today (2-17-15) is my nephew Jesse's (QWILL) birthday. He is singing back up and playing the acoustic guitar on this song. It's just Jesse and myself playing live at the Legion the summer of 2013. Happy Birthday Jesse I LOVE YOU!

WINTER STORM MARCUS DAY II

Well seeing how winter storm MARCUS was a 4 day swell and each day was significant, I shot more that I typically would shoot. I had posted the first MARCUS clip last week. It was a Black and White clip. My first B&W in many years. This was all shot on February 12th, 2015. It was snowing pretty heavy by the end of the day. What else is new? We've had a crazy winter here in New Hampshire. The surfers are the usual suspects. Weston Rogers, Dave Cropper, Perry Reynolds, Max Fatello, Peter Stokes, Lenny Nichols, Kevin Grondin, and a bunch of others. The music is by Jimi Hendrix. It's short but sweet. I hope you like it.

Thanks

Ralph

Winter Storm MARCUS in Black and White from SFOD/Ralph's Pic Of The Week February 10th, 2015.

My first B&W clip since the 80's. The local boys were tearing it up out there. Weston Rogers, Stevie O'Hara, Max Fatello, Dave Cropper, Kevin Grondin, Phil Carey, Peter Stokes, Casey Lockwood, and Roger Beal. The tune is by LZ and it kicks. Just one more in the winter storm series. Hope you like it.
