June 28th, 2014 The RUN is 16 out of 17 Weeks
Waist high or better, at least once a week. There was just
barely waist high surf on Saturday June 28th, 2014...

Surfing With Smiles, Summer Surf Movies, and Saying Happy Birthday America!

I had a hard time justifying the wave height this week. Almost pulled the plug on my own waist high theory. I shot about 70 pics on Saturday morning, and it wasn't until I got back in my studio that I changed my mind. Photos don't lie. Humans do. Photos do not.

What I saw was, a few waves that looked waist high.

Notice I said a few. Not gonna lie here. They were few and far between. But none the less, they were waist high on the people riding them. So I had to bite my tongue and acknowledge them. There were a few waist high waves on Saturday, June 28th, 2014. I know there were, because I saw them, and shot a few.

This coming July 4th is for me (and I'm sure a lot of you) the TRUE start of Summer. While some claim that Memorial Day is the UN-Official start of summer, July 4th is clearly the start. And with summer comes the pros and cons of the annual season.

Some of the pros are; the "Surfing With Smiles" program. This is an annual summer event that was started by two local surfers Lindsay (with speaker horn) and Taylor.

And it is nothing short of amazing. There are two events that happen every summer on our local beach. The Surfing With Smiles and the Wounded Warriors HIT THE BEACH. Both are worthy of your time as a volunteer, or as a bystander, taking it all in.

The giving back to those who are less fortunate than you is the touchstone and concept of these heart warming events. It is truly a wonderful thing to see in this jaded world of surfers.

There is nothing more rewarding to see and be part of these
beautiful summer programs. These two events separate the rest of the New England beaches from our local beaches each summer by having these two unique events. Can you say proud of Hampton?

North Beach in Hampton, New Hampshire is where it all goes down. And the volunteers at both events get as much (if not more) out of these events as the participants themselves. It's 100% true.

I can't say enough good things about Cinnamon Rainbow's owner Dave Cropper, who volunteers each summer and provides the gear and soft-tops for Surfing With Smiles. He's also one of the four shops who help with the Wounded Warriors HIT THE BEACH as well.

But seeing Dave above smiling with one of the kids with Autism is in a nutshell why it's called "Surfing With Smiles"

Because of the simple notion that Surfing is fun, it has been passed on to those who have Autism and to those who have been wounded in the wars. Surfing is fun. And it makes no difference what skill level you are at it is still fun. Surfing with Smiles is one of those events that stay with you long after the actual time spent on the beach.

People feel good helping other people. I have said it many times in the past and I will say it again. And that is: "There are more people doing good things then there are doing bad things."

And The "Surfing With Smiles" event is certainly one of those.

"Surfing With Smiles Heals All Wounds"

My latest movie is due for a mid to late July showing.
And I think I'll end up showing it at the Legion (next to Flatbread)
for an old school premiere. Or we might try and show it outside.
That would be the ultimate in OLD SCHOOL Surf Moviedom.
Portions of the proceeds will go to the WOUNDED
WARRIORS PROJECT.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

The USA Soccer team the advanced in the World Cup even though they lost to Germany. Not sure how that works. But then again, I am not a big soccer fan. Never have been. I will be if the US gets to the Finals. Yes I'm a fair weather fan. So shoot me.
Speaking of shooting:

ISIS The Islamic State of Iraq and Al Sham (Al Qeada) is a mere 30 miles from Baghdad. They are closing in on the capital of Iraq. With Syria and Iran helping Iraq they could give a rats ass what we do at this point. It might be just as well. But I'm pretty
sure a few well placed drone strikes or air-strikes could really
put a damper on these thugs.

The IRS email scandal has been nothing short of interesting.

Where them emails at woman? Say what? You lost em?

There is no way to talk your way out of this mess. But it's all
par for the course for this current administration. Ugh.

Did you all see this on CNN last week? This dad was being told by Nancy Grace that his missing child of 11 days was just found in his basement. Not sure what to make of all of this. But something doesn't smell right.

This week we see our boy KSM with ISIS. There's nothing funny about this. I'm doing this as a reminder as to just who ISIS really is. Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 is Al Qeada. ISIS is a direct shoot off of Al Qeada. We should all be very concerned about these thugs. VERY CONCERNED.

So once again, let's all take a minute, and enjoy the weekly
humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of shaving cream at Home
Depot this week.

OK I have been a BIG Fan of Ben Ginsberg's work since he first sent me a batch of photos about 5 -6 years ago. He's really got a handle on the West Coast and his finger is directly on the pulse of some red hot contemporary surfing. You won't be seeing SUPS or Belly Boards from Ben. That's not his gig. He is living and shooting in the now. And his work speaks volumes of where his heart is at.
