June 26th, 2016 The RUN is 31 out of 32 Weeks.
Waist high or better at least once a week.

There was Surf ALL WEEK Long!

The Strawberry Moon Summer Solstice Swell, Local Legend Turns 60, and the first Surfing With Smiles of the Season.

What's the old saying? "A picture is worth a thousand words."
Max Fatello (above) has a few choice words about this last week.

Well, seeing how we had surf all week long, and I have a whopping 13 galleries, I'm gonna leave the TRUMP and HILLARY bashing out this week. Along with the fiasco in England and just stick with the good and happy stuff. In other words, this was a fun filled week of surf and it all began on the 21st of June
and ended on the 25th of June. So that's what you get this week.

Pev was on that nose so many times last week, his heels had blisters.

And you just knew that Mikey Evans was spending some serious time
on the nose too. The swell was perfect for nose riding.

And if Pev and Mikey Evans were out getting their fair share of nose rides,
you would expect that the man himself Mikey Moran, would be too.

The one thing I did not mention was how cold it was. Trust me, it was COLD.

If you missed this swell, well, what can I say? You're stupid. Well, that might be too harsh for keeping this a fun filled blog. But honestly, with four surf cams within a 10 mile radius here, there's really no excuse for missing this swell. Yeah you have work. But how about before or after? Let's face it, if you missed this swell, you blew it. Hey, we all miss a swell or two.

Next time, don't let me ask "What's in your wallet?"

And the girls were all out in full force too. Here's Ginger Nelson's first wave.

And Becca Speak, seen cutting back on Tuesday June 21st. The first day of Summer. I was saying to some of the girls this week, that I want to do a short
all women surf edit this summer. Longboards and shortboards, as long as you're a woman who knows how to surf. That's my criteria.

I'm going to call it "Dames On Waves". I figured with all the talented women surfing these days, it's time I did a feature on just them. Lord knows I've done every other concept locally.

Next decent swell I'll be shooting the women. So stay alert girls.
*Even you grom girls like Ana here.

Local legend Kevin "Doc" Grondin turned 60 this week.

That's Kevin in the blue suit looking concerned. And he's surrounded by some close old friends. Jacko, Jay, and myself. He didn't want anyone to know.
So I promised I wouldn't tell anyone. (In person) but I never said anything about this blog or social media. What? Look, Kevin never goes on the Internet, and
he never goes on facebook. He refuses. And I respect him for that.

I also respect him for his surfing. This was his very first wave at the age of 60.
He was happy that I joined him out there. I have spent the better part of 4 decades surfing with Kevin. I have logged some serious hours of surfing with him over the years.

This is me surfing at 10th Street on Kevin's birthday. *If you look closely, you can see that a kook has decided to join me on this crappy wave. Talk about irony. I would of done this week's BDI on this guy, but he was 100% clueless
that he had done anything wrong. Still, I found this funny. Whatever.

Later that night, Kevin joined Dave Cropper and dozens of volunteers for the first SURFING WITH SMILES THIS SEASON.

And honestly, that's what kind of person Kevin is. He would rather spend his time with these kids, teaching them how to surf on his 60th Birthday than to
be at some wild party. I was never so proud of him that night.

"Surfing With Smiles Heals All Wounds"

I can remember Zappy when he was just a grom. I gave him the nickname Zap and the name of his shop and boards. Zapstix. He's a dad and husband and has been living a good life down over the bridge. I saw the Paugh family this weekend for the Scotty Bedell paddle. I heard the news that Zappy and Ali are going to have a baby boy. Sister Rorri is going to have a little brother. We can't wait,

This is a shot that Ed took of Zappy and Rorri in July of 2013.

To see more of Ed's pics just scroll through the archives. He has shot so many pics for the blog. Be sure and pick up a copy of the COLD COAST and check out Ed's own gallery.
Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog. Photo by Ed O'Connell

It's funny, but true. Let me know if you want one of these.

Just roll your mouse over this image (above). See what I mean? Whatever you can't do-I can make you do it.

KSM Photoshop of the Week

M&M D-DAY JUNE 6th, 2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

For the last two years, I had wanted to shoot Mikey Moran and Mikey Evans. But I could never get them in the water at the same time. This day June 6th, 2016 also happened to be the anniversary of D-Day June 6th, 1944, when by total happenstance, they both showed up at the Wall. So I took advantage of the situation and put this clip together. Originally, I had wanted to do a longer feature, but with today's "spit 'em out as fast as you can" edits, I opted for the get it out while it's still fresh. M&M are joined by Kevin "Doc" Grondin and Kyle Linseman. Proof that we in the Northeast have a whole bunch of talented longboarders. The song is by one of my favorite bands in the late 70's.
"Gut Feeling" by Devo.

The Long and The Short Of It D-DAY JUNE 6th, 2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

I shot this on June 6th, 2016. The anniversary of D-Day June 6th, 1944. This is the sister video to the longboard M&M clip I shot on the same day. This is all shortboarding. It's featuring Kai Nichols and Mackey V and a few others. Like Lars Jacobsen and Brian Tabor. I chose the man Jimi Hendrix for the soundtrack. It's under 4 minutes. Hope you like it. June 6th, was quite a day here. And it sure as hell was quite the day on Normandy Beach in France in 1944. God bless them all.

Behind The Scenes Of Flat Feet Productions
from Flat Feet Productions on Vimeo.

Its summer, the waves are small and there is a lot of bullshit going on down here. Buckle up, Summer 2016 is going to be lit AF.

SEE YOU OUT IN THE WATER

This short 4 minute clip was shot a summer or two ago. And it was shot all on my GoPro Hero II. The problem with water photography is you have to be sitting on the surfers to get a decent shot. So I was limited out there. Plus I wasn't wearing fins. I know, I'm stupid. This was like I said a year ago. I have since started wearing fins.
The surfers are: Kevin and Kody Grondin, DJ Sparks, Mike Stanek, Toby Parke, and Ryan Jackson. I used a Prince song. You know, because it was time. Check it out

No Pro Just Locals 5-10-16 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

After shooting a handful of pro longboarders a few weeks ago, I knew I had to shoot some of our own Non Pros. Though two of the very best were not in this clip (Mikey Moran and Mikey Evans) but I got plans for those two. My MIKEY and MIKEY video is coming soon. But back to this baby. The two standouts are Kyle Linseman and Pev. These guys have honed their craft of longboarding to an art form that would make any fan of longboarding smile and nod. There are others as well. Billy Ritchie, Julie Jakoboski, Jared Hay, Hannah Vokey, Skip Brunette, Rick Evans, Sam Vokey and Ken Linseman. The music is a Bryan Ferry remix. *Be sure to watch past the credits, and of course watch it in HD.
