The darkness of addiction and the brightness of love...

I had every intention of writing about Father's Day in this week's blog. You know, the virtues of being a good father, the father's who are no longer with us...the new dads. The surf dads. All of that. But the best laid plans sometimes get derailed by something called life.

On Monday June 9th, 2014, my 31 year old nephew Michael Colby passed away from this earth forever.



He was my sister Gale's only child. It was one of those moments that will stay with you forever. Hearing the news. The disbelief. The shock. The raw grief that seems to come from deep within your very soul. The endless river of tears. My whole family was caught off guard.

And like all close knit families we circled the wagons and poured our hearts and souls into comforting one another. Still the never ending waves of sadness seem to come at any minute of the day. We have never experienced this kind of grief before.

We have lost parents, uncles, aunts, etc etc. Close friends. But never something like this . And I suppose it's due to the fact that Michael died from something that could very well have been avoided. He did not pass from cancer, or a car accident, or dying for his country. He died because of the darkness that is addiction.

Yes it is a disease. Heroin addiction and alcoholism are diseases. But it can be beaten. It can be put aside to allow you to continue to live a healthy and decent life. But that is easier said than done.

Heroin addiction is a serious threat to our loved ones.

And let me tell you, it is everywhere. Especially here on the seacoast.
And not only is it a local scourge it is also being cut with a deadly combination of substances that can, and will kill you. The lowlife dealers who sell this shit to our children could care less about you and those they sell it to. The drug dealer is the devil. They work for Satan.

They care about one thing and one thing only. Making money. Period.

Heroin is the devil's brew. And if you have a loved one who is addicted to this poison you need to help them. You need to step up and extend your hand. You need to let them know that you LOVE them and that you are worried about them and that YOU will help
them find help. You need to do this.

If you turn a blind eye on a loved one who is dealing with this disease, you will regret the day you did nothing for all of eternity. Trust me, it is hard enough when you provide help, if you do nothing you are only enabling them to hurt themselves and you and your family.

You must let love shine through to them and hope and pray that they get it. You need to shine the bright light of love on their hurting souls.

Love is stronger and brighter than the darkness.



This is Michael from this past Easter. He is on the left in the plaid shirt. He is happy. He is laughing. He is with family and there are no signs that anything is wrong.



Here is another photo. This is one of the last photos I took of Michael. He is with his cousin Jesse. Looking right into the lens of my camera.
Little did I know that this would be the last photo I ever took of him.
Easter Sunday. The day that the entire Christian population has based their religion on. The Resurrection of Jesus Christ.

My latest movie is due for a early July showing. And I think I'll end
up showing it at the Legion (next to Flatbread) for an old school premiere. Portions of the proceeds will go to the WOUNDED WARRIORS PROJECT. So Stay tuned.

He was a genius when it came to animated graphics. Truly talented beyond belief. Not just saying this because he's my nephew, I'm saying this because it's the truth.

Heroin took this bright shining star away from all of us. Not just my sister and her husband and daughter, not just my immediate
family, but everyone. All of us. Anyone who watches HBO, the History Channel, Disney etc etc...this talented wonderful person is gone because of the darkness of addiction.

I hope you are at peace Michael, and that you will watch over your mother and loved ones because they are hurting. They need to know that you are Ok. If there was anyone who could break the code of communicating from one world to the next, I believe it would be you. Reach out and let your mother know. You are safe. You are with God in heaven and everything is ok. I love you Michael Colby. We all love you.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

Ok so how many of you saw this coming? Damn...this felt like 1975 all over again when Saigon fell to the communists. If I was an Iraqi Veteran I would feel sick to my stomach over this. So many lives lost over there. So many wounded. It just seems impossible that this would happen again in our lifetime.



They are marching on Baghdad . You have got to be kidding me? The president of Iraq is pleading the US to help them. Drones? Air strikes? Anything but boots on the ground. But they better hurry. This is serious news and about to get more serious in the upcoming days. Look for gas prices to soar! Oh yeah.



My how time flies. Can you believe that it was 20 years ago when we all watched the infamous OJ Bronco chase scene? talk about riveting TV. I'll never forget it. That crazy long slow chase through LA with OJ Simpson huddled down in the backseat with a gun to his head. Is there anyone out there who REALLY thinks he is innocent? Anyone? I mean come on. By now I would think that even the African American population would look at the evidence and think he was guilty. This was NEVER about race. It was always about murder. Two people died because OJ went crazy and killed them. CASE CLOSED.

More fun week for me with KSM and my weekly humiliation of Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM) the mastermind behind 9-11. Here we see KSM driving the Bronco with OJ in the back. Who knew Ole KSM was behind the wheel of that infamous run?



So once again, let's all take a minute, and enjoy the weekly
humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of Motor Oil and kitchen
knives at Home Depot this week.

The sea smoke and sunrise footage is worth the viewing alone. Not to mention the beautiful sunsets and the white snow covered seacoast.
