July 9th, 2017 The RUN is 12 out of 12 Weeks.
Waist high or better at least once a week.

There were waist high waves on the 2nd and 3rd this week

Granite Girls Update. Trump shakes Putin's hand. Christie and company get the whole beach to themselves.

So there were some fun waves on the 2nd and 3rd this past week. But the fun stopped there. It was FREEZING cold out there. The water temps were in the mid 50's. That's ridiculous for a July 4th weekend swell. People were wearing boots, and some even had gloves on. Come on. I guess I don't fully grasp the whole Global Warming thing. Shouldn't everything be getting warmer?

This is Noreen, she's one of the many women who are in my new movie GRANITE GIRLS and The RIVER WOMEN. Check it out, she's wearing boots and gloves on July 2nd! That's just not right people. This is another reason why I'm making this film. The women surfers who live and surf in New England have got to be hard core. Especially, if they surf year round. I know we all have high tech wetsuits these days, but let's be real, the water still gets in your suit and in your face. And if anyone has surfed around here in the winter you know exactly what I'm talking about.

In short, the women who surf here in the Northeast need to be heard!

And that's exactly what I'm doing with this movie. There are too many women surfers out there who do not get recognized. I'm sure there are some male surfers who are no doubt grumbling about this movie project. And to them I say "Tough shit! Get over it! You don't own the ocean."

Speaking of women and water. Check this out! Our first ever underwater selfie! And believe it or not, this was a one take photo.

My wife and I had a very quiet July 4th celebration. We hung out in our friend's pool and later watched the Fireworks on TV. The Boston Pops was great. Many moons ago Cory and I along with two close friends got to witness the last July 4th Celebration with Arthur Fiedler. It was amazing. And quite frankly, we have not seen a fireworks display like it ever since. We have no young children anymore, and the grandkids were off with their parents, so it was just Cory and I. And you know what? We had a blast. (No pun intended).

This is my CALL FOR SURF ART. The 13th Annual Surf Art Blog.
ANYONE who has any kind of Art (drawings, paintings, sculptures, carvings etc etc) relating to the ocean and surfing should send me their art. And by send, I mean via email, Facebook, or any of the other digital avenues. Just send them to me by July 27th!

It's not a contest. It's just an appreciation for surf art. This year we are dedicating the Surf Art Blog to the late John Severson. If you're not a surfer, just Google him. But you surfers know who he is. He started SURFER magazine. He was a filmmaker as well as an artist.

He is without question, the ICON of modern day surfing.

So I made a short trailer for this movie. It's down in the movie section. It's short two minutes. I plan on making the final edit about 30-45 minutes long. It will definitely be under an hour. It's going to be available on DVD in the local surf shops. Or you can order from the Surf Free Or Die site once it's done and packaged up for distribution.

It's looking like a late summer (mid September) release date.

Now for Some More Of My Weekly Global Observances
This week on TRUMP TV we got to see The Donald shake the hand
of the Putin. It wasn't all what it was cracked up to be. Typical politics they both had different interpretations of what transpired between the two. From what I could tell, it was just a lot of smiling for the cameras and shaking hands. Neither one can speak each other's language, so it's kind of hard to get the gist of what someone is saying to you.

I think it went something like this (below).

It's just my opinion, but I could be wrong.

KSM Photoshop of the Week

So our boy KSM somehow ended up on the beach in New Jersey
with the Christie family this Fourth Of July. The Governor had the beach closed to the public. And yet Ole Khaliddy got the invite. You know there had to be some serious snacks at that outing.

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Sunscreen at Home Depot
this week.

The JIMMY DUNN COMEDY SHOW is Back On the Beach! Four Nights
with 24 Comics. Including the funny Lenny Clarke.

Prayers and positive thoughts to Erica Nardone's recovery.

Prayers and positive thoughts to surfer Jason Kooken who suffered
a spinal cord injury in New Jersey last month.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY John Rastl July 12th, 2017!
REST IN PEACE Jerry Dignam.

GRANITE GIRLS and The RIVER WOMEN
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the trailer for the new Surf Free Or Die and Ralph's Pic movie about the women surfers of the Northeast.
We're looking at a late summer release. It's been fun working with these talented women. The movie itself will be around 30 minutes long.
Hope you like it.

JUNEASTER June 7-8-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The welcomed Nor'easter we got on June 6th, 2017 that gave us 3 solid days of waves. All the points, reefs, and beaches were firing. I shot from NH to ME. And while the overall conditions were not exactly ideal, the vibe in and out of the water was filled with laughter. Why do surfers have to be so cruel to one another, especially when watching your buds get smoked out in the water? I don't know, but it's always been that way. We hoot when someone gets a good wave, and we howl when someone eats shit. Ha...I'm smiling now just writing this.

This web edit is a first for me. The shooting was shared with Kyle Linseman's cool Drone footage. I can foresee a partnership working with Kyle. He's stoked about shooting the action. And make no mistake about it, Kyle can rip. So for him to sacrifice his own surf time to shoot, speaks volumes of his new found passion. The music is by Meshell Ndegeocello and John Digwood. I'm stoked about this one. Hope you will be too.

MOTHER'S DAY SWELL May 14-15-16-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the web edit for the 3 Day Mother's Day Swell. It never really got bigger than head high. And it rained the first two days. Still, it was surf, and beggars can't be choosers now can we. I did the edit today after hearing about the death Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden. He had a great voice. It's ironic because I was looking for the right song to go with this edit. And I believe I found it with Black Hole Sun. The surfers that I can remember are: Kai Nichols, Tom Hay, Andy Elliott, Mikey Moran, Skip Brunette, Erik Zak, Kody Grondin, Chris Stelman, Max Fatello, Mikey Evans, and a handful I couldn't ID. This is for all the mothers. past, present, and future. And it's in memory of Chris Cornell.

The Forgotten Go Pro Footage 2014-2016 Part 1
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

This is a series of web edits that was all shot on my old GoPro. How old? Well it's the HERO II. So that's 3 GoPros ago. Did I just write that? I guess I did. Any way, this first edit was shot on the last day of Summer in 2014. The surfers are (that I can remember) : Perry Reynolds, Kai Nichols, Lenny Nichols, Mike Rosa, Zach Bru, Bryan Johnson, Kyle Linesman, Kenny Linseman, and a bunch of others. *You might want to take some Dramamine before watching this. It's all water shots, so no tripods were used. Music is by Trentemoller and Grenier.

The Forgotten GoPro Footage Part II 2014-2016 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

More of the GoPro footage I had lying around. It's pretty much small wall footage. Though, it is noteworthy a the clips of Kevin Grondin were all shot on his birthday last Jun 23d, 2016. The rest is mostly empty waves with Mackey getting a few. The real cool thing about this web edit is. 50 years ago today, May 12th, 1967, The Jimi Hendrix Experience released their debut LP. This song was on that record. And I remember it all like it was yesterday. Funny thing is, the song is as current today as it was 50 years ago. Do check it out.
