Surfing With Smiles and Walking for Stephen.

I think I know stoked when I see it. I'm talking about legitimate stoke. Not something posers pretend to be. Lord knows I've seen enough of them. I guess I mean that pure innocent salt water stoke that we all felt at one time in our lives. Most of us would hark-en back to when we were young and clueless.

But I remember the feeling I had when I first felt it. It was on my old Keoki. At the corner on Lynn Beach. I can still hear the water rippling along as I cruised on that long right. That sensation stayed with me to this day. I'm sure you all have similar stories.

Phil Edwards called it being "jazzed". I could relate to that.

This is STOKE. By both the father and his son. Like I was saying, I know stoke when I see it. And I see it here. I think you do too. These are I-phone pics that I shot on Thursday July 16th, 2015. It was the second event of the summer.

SURFING WITH SMILES has become one the most attended events we have all summer. I mean all you have to do is to look at the photos. Do you see smiles? Then BAM! It was another huge success.

Thanks to Lindsay and Cinnamon Rainbows and all the volunteers. It is always an amazing time to witness. If you have been lucky enough to witness one of these events, or better yet, had volunteered for one. You will leave with the biggest smile on your face.

I know there are some jaded surfers out there who will look at this and sneer. If they don't know what is behind all of this, they won't get it. If someone were ever to ask me..."Is this really surfing Ralph?" My answer would be "You bet your fricken ass it's surfing!" And I would use my big voice when I do answer.

I mean look at that stance. Look at it. You're looking at Stoke.

The whole McCarthy family was out in force today. This was the McCarthy Strong FIGHT AGAINST Pancreatic Cancer. It was held in memory of beloved son, husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend to so many. Stephen McCarthy. The vibe this morning was so positive. It was a 5k (3.1 miles) walk that started from the American Legion and ended at the High Street cemetery where Steve is buried.

It was a bittersweet day to say the least.

Stephen's wife and kids lead the walk. Nina, Corey, Lene, and Ryan stepped off at around 11:30 and the walkers all followed. There were families with small children in strollers. There were people with dogs. There were couples young and old. There was basically a sea of love moving through Hampton. And the weather was just cool enough to make the walk tolerable.

I've know Duffy since he was Connor's age. He's a great father, husband, and brother. And he has about a million friends. He is what that tee shirt says. McCARTHY STRONG!

And I was proud to walk with him and his
whole family.

How many walkers? I would say a couple of hundred easy.

Three of the five Fatello girls were there. I pushed Avery the whole way and I had a blast listening to her talk the entire 5k. She is something special. When the walk was over she was soaked.
I guess the juice cup spilled all over her. So much for Gramps paying attention to the details. We all had fun. I could of walked another 10k easy. But my hip was bothering me. Not sure what that means. I hope it's not what most of my friends have been dealing with. New hips.
I better not say that out loud.

The walk ended at Steve's grave. As it turned out we were close enough to Steve's immediate family. They gathered by his grave and held onto each other. It was a private moment that was shared with those who were there.

I'm sure their father and husband was smiling down on them all.

Soon they were joined by Stephen's sisters and brothers.
It was a touching moment. I think we all left the cemetery today feeling the McCarthy strong vibe. In fact, I know we all did.

Rest in Peace Steve. You are missed every minute of every day.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
Behold the latest cowardly act by a lone Terrorist. Mohammed something...he does not warrant his full name.
Oh what the hell. His full name is Mohammed Phuck Phace. And he was inspired by the good folks at ISIS.

This dick wad was killed by local police.

But not before he killed 4 Marines and one NAVY petty officer. All who were unarmed. But let's face it. These cowards don't play by our rules. They have their own set of rules. I think it's time we played by their rules. What do you think?.

Such a happy doe eyed Muslim. Mohammed drank the ISIS Kool Aid. He is no longer a threat. Nor is he with 72 virgins. He is in a burning hell, where all cowards go.

My friends gave me this towel on July 4th. Clearly an appropriate gift on this day. The tee shirt I've had since April. If I could I would wear it every single day.

Some people were pissed that Caitlyn Jenner received the Arthur Ashe Courage Award this year. But not KSM. He was awarded the most courageous terrorist transgender in GITMO this same week. Here's a picture of Khaliddy wiping away a tear.

I can see how KSM could get this prestigious award. The folks at GITMO need inspiration. And KSM delivers this week.

So once again, please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're welcome KSM fans.

A Wave a day for 365 consecutive days.
Yesterday- Caley and the old Green Quad. circa 1985
(Below) My old English Setter Caley. She lived to be 16yrs old. She was the best surf dog. She would wait on any beach I surfed, and she would greet every single surfer coming and going. Always waiting for me. She was a good dog. The quads of yesterday are not like the quads of today. This board was 6' 0" and was over 3inches thick. I rode it in everything. I don't believe I surfed for more than a year. My son Max has taken up with riding a bunch of my old boards. It's funny to see these boards from the 70's and 80's being ridden today. One thing's for sure, I never surfed them like these guys do.

The Wedge saw some massive waves on May 4, 2015 when a solid south swell hit southern California.

Song: Sixth Glass
Artist: Honey & Wax

"The Right". 1 Guess why it's called that. Not hard to figure that one out, but this wave is different to any right i've ever surfed. It's hard to compare different waves to each other, but maybe you could say its a similar version of Teahupoo only right, matching its power and quick arrival out of the deep West Australian water. One difference in particular is that after its initial break on the shallow shelf, it quickly falls into a deep section where it can hold you down for a very long time. I'd be lying if i said i was wasn't scared surfing this wave...

BIG SUNDAY April 17th, 2011

The day before, some 44 people died in violent Tornadoes sweeping up through and across the south and the Midwestern states. Devastation and horror followed by heartbreaking stories.

That same system came here to New England.

The wind went East/Northeast and blew hard. The next day, the swell had arrived, and the wind came around out of the West. Then the sun came out.

What happened next is the stuff that dreams are made of. For some, it was the stuff of nightmares. Suffice it to say, the surf was big. But we're talking big for these parts. Was it the biggest ever? No. But it was significant.

I shot for about 3-5 hours total. I saw some good rides, and some horrific wipeouts. But that's surfing.

Later, it glassed off, and the moon rose up out of the ocean and it was a beautiful ending to a very impressive day here on the Northern New England seacoast.

I chose Jimi again for the music...it seems to fit.

Hope you enjoy BIG SUNDAY.

Ralph
