February 22nd, 2015 The RUN is 7 out of 7 Weeks

Waist high or better, at least once a week. There was
head high to overhead surf from winter Storm NEPTUNE
on 2-15-15 and then some clean surf on Thursday
February 19th, 2015.

Winter Storm NEPTUNE, the 70th anniversary of the Flag Raising on Iwo Jima, and the Oscars.

I'm writing this blog late on a Saturday night and there's snow falling outside my window. That's nothing surprising to any of us experiencing this winter here in New England. What is surprising is, that I honestly don't care. It's true. I have become numb to these relentless snow storms. Or as Pink Floyd so aptly put it, I have become comfortably numb.

We're only supposed to get 5". Funny thing is, I can remember when 5" meant something. Not these days. If it ain't a foot, I ain't raising my eyebrows. Wait did I just write "ain't" twice in the same sentence? I did. And I don't care. Ha. I really have become "Comfortably Numb."

The NEPTUNE storm was wacked.

I have driven all over the country and I have experienced some of the worse driving conditions ever. There was that time in PA where I drove the family into a paralyzing fog on a mountain. White knuckle time. And I took full responsibility for that blunder. I have since learned that if the big tractor trailers are on the side of the road at the bottom of large hills and mountains, waiting for the fog to clear, I will be joining them. That was insane.

I have driven through major snow storms and hurricanes.

But last Sunday on February 15th, 2015 I got caught in a complete white out here on the seacoast. Not once. Not twice. But three different times. And the crazy thing was, the sun was out. It was like 3 in the afternoon. But I am telling you that the wind was howling so bad it was causing the snow to billow and blow across Ocean Blvd and Rte 1-A that it caused the world to disappear.

I tried to take video and stills but it was too hard to do. Not to mention dangerous. After all there were vehicles behind me. Including some close friends. Kevin and Kim Grondin. We were all checking the surf. I ended up shooting the surf and the snow, and it is featured in one of the clips in the video section.

By the time I got back to the house I could see what NEPTUNE had brought us. FYI my son Max had been on the roof the storm before and cleared it all off. Including the awning. But as you can all plainly see, there's another foot and a half piled up. This winter has us all in a death grip. And he's not letting go just yet.

There's a long way to go before this all melts.

Okay, so tonight is the Academy awards and this guy is the host. I would imagine there's a boatload of pressure on Neil Patrick Harris. Some big shoes to fill. Billy Crystal, Ellen, etc etc. But I would imagine he's got his shit together. It's not like they hand that out to anyone. You have got to have something special to be able to stand up there and handle that crowd and the gazillions of people watching at home.
I'll be tuning in (later)....I hope he does well.

And I really hope this movie (below) does well too. AMERICAN SNIPER. Bradley Cooper did an amazing job portraying NAVY SEAL Chris Kyle. The movie was everything you've heard it was. There's nothing glorious about war. Nothing. But there is something to recognizing the individuals who volunteer to go and help other human beings in need. That is noble. That is worthy of praise and respect.

I hope this movie wins just to shut the big fat trap of Michael Moore and the others of the Hollywood elite who have bashed the film and it's content. Good luck to all who had something to do with this film. And let's never forget the warriors and their families who have sacrificed so much.

Speaking of warriors. Last Thursday was the 70th anniversary of this major battle in the South pacific. IWO JIMA. This aerial photo of the beach landing is pretty impressive. The men in those landing crafts had no idea what truly awaited them. The Marines lost 6,281 KIA and over 19,000 wounded. The Japanese lost 21,000 men killed in action. Only 200 surrendered. The rest died fighting.

My uncle Bruno was there, as were two other close friends. One of my friends is still with us and he is a living piece of history. "Uncommon Valor, was a common virtue" Admiral Nimitz

Tomorrow marks the 70th anniversary of the Flag Raising.
This one photo changed my life. I enlisted in the Marines because
of this image. I have no regrets

"Ed's Corner" pic this week is from September 14th, 2013. The surfer is Kyle Linseman. Kyle has been shuffling back and forth along with his dad Kenny from the cold Northeast to the warm tropical waters of PR as of late. The way this winter has been I'd spend more time in PR if I were them.

To see more of Ed's pics just hit the archives tab and scroll through the years and see some Ed's work. Be sure to pick up the new SFOD movie The COLD COAST and check out the extra feature of Ed O'Connell's gallery set to music.

Each week I will feature one of Ed's great pics from this blog.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances

ISIS has beheaded 21 Christians on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea. They are now threatening to invade Rome.
One of these days the world will wake up and join forces to wipe out these modern day Nazis.

Meanwhile can't we wipe this clown off the map?

The SNL 40th anniversary was ruined by this clown's act.
Dude please try and get over yourself. Please. Listen to the world, they are trying to tell you something. SHUT THE F*** UP!

Speaking of clowns. (I'm speaking about myself) I thought I did a pretty good job with my mad photoshop skills here. Sorry Brian and Bill. But you both deserve it.

OK once again, KSM has been given the privilege to interview the stars on the Red Carpet. Man they must be pretty liberal down there at GITMO to allow him to travel to Hollywood each year.

Please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001.
Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're welcome KSM fans.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of silicon at Home Depot this week.

And Happy Birthday to all you February Birthdays!
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to the MOST talented person I know. Jesse QWILL Ciarmataro February 17th, 2015.
*Facebook no longer gives me the weekly birthday updates.
They only send me daily ones. Sorry.

Please keep my sister Evamarie in your thoughts and prayers and send positive thoughts to our dear friend Meghan Evans and family. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfer Rick Fiorentini and his family.

Please add them all to your prayer list. Thank you.

FEBRUARY 19th, 2015

70 years ago today the Marines landed on Iwo Jima. February 19th, 1945. My uncle was there and my dad was on another Island in the South Pacific. I shot this video today of my son Max and the music is by my nephew Jesse and my brother John is playing the guitar solo. It dawned on me as I stood on that cold beach today, that had my uncle been killed, or my father died over there, none of this video would have happened today. But they survived and as a result this clip is here for all to see. This clip is dedicated to the 6,281 Marines who died on Iwo Jima and to all the men and women who fought in WWII.

God Bless them all.

WINTER STORM NEPTUNE February 15th, 2015

OK the next winter storm on tap was this bad boy. NEPTUNE. He dumped another foot and a half on our sorry asses. The wind was howling like I'd never seen it. White out conditions in the bright sunlight was weird. The surf was marginal but unique due to the cold, snow, and wind. Wes and Max made the best of it out there. The song is ALL ALONG THE WATCHTOWER Live with myself and my nephew Jesse. Today (2-17-15) is my nephew Jesse's (QWILL) birthday. He is singing back up and playing the acoustic guitar on this song. It's just Jesse and myself playing live at the Legion the summer of 2013. Happy Birthday Jesse I LOVE YOU!

WINTER STORM MARCUS DAY II

Well seeing how winter storm MARCUS was a 4 day swell and each day was significant, I shot more that I typically would shoot. I had posted the first MARCUS clip last week. It was a Black and White clip. My first B&W in many years. This was all shot on February 12th, 2015. It was snowing pretty heavy by the end of the day. What else is new? We've had a crazy winter here in New Hampshire. The surfers are the usual suspects. Weston Rogers, Dave Cropper, Perry Reynolds, Max Fatello, Peter Stokes, Lenny Nichols, Kevin Grondin, and a bunch of others. The music is by Jimi Hendrix. It's short but sweet. I hope you like it.

Thanks

Ralph

Winter Storm MARCUS in Black and White from SFOD/Ralph's Pic Of The Week February 10th, 2015.

My first B&W clip since the 80's. The local boys were tearing it up out there. Weston Rogers, Stevie O'Hara, Max Fatello, Dave Cropper, Kevin Grondin, Phil Carey, Peter Stokes, Casey Lockwood, and Roger Beal. The tune is by LZ and it kicks. Just one more in the winter storm series. Hope you like it.
