Well
I have to say. I'm in a good mood today. Why? Well for starters, my faith
in humanity has been restored. At least on a local regional basis. How's
that? Last night I was part of a large gathering of Surfers who, gave
in the true spirit of this Holiday Season. There was a Holiday
gathering that included a TOYS FOR TOTS gift giving and a Fundraiser
for one of our own. Mike Moran. You may, or may not know the name.
But you'd certainly know his surfing if you saw him. He's one of the BEST.
In fact, he's one of the best Longboarders in the country, let alone,
in New England. It's not just me who thinks that. Lots do. Mike
Moran can do things on a Longboard that most only dream about. And
he does it with a style and flair, that is both pleasing to the old school
Longboarders as well as the new breed. And believe me, it's not just Longboarders
who notice.
People stop paddling to watch him go by.
So... long story short.
Mike recently had a serious accident that set him back a bit. And
let's face it, no one needs to be out of work during the Holidays. So,
a bunch of the local boys got together and raised some cash to help him
through this Holiday season. Mike was on hand at the event and
was overwhelmed by the love and support. It's a humbling experience to
realize how many people do love you when your in need of help. Mike
was truly thankful for all of it.
He's a good guy and he would of been there had it been for one of us.
Lot's of people need to be thanked for this and truthfully there are too
many to name, but I need to mention the following:
Rick Evans for initiating the whole party. Joe Gangi and Frosty
Fresh for supplying the tasty Veggie and Fruit platters. Jon Gozzo
and Quiznos for their healthy food contribution. King's Highway
for supplying the music. Marky J for security. And The American
Legion for donating a big portion of the Hall rental.
But, especially all the family and friends who showed up and helped a
local surfer out and basically had a great time with us.
It felt good to be part of something so positive and uplifting. I know
it sounds corny and all, but people gave of themselves this weekend and
I was witness to it.
It's Christmas, Chanukah, Kwanza and whatever else you celebrate.
But more importantly, it's the season of giving. Giving... NOT taking.
And people...no scratch that. Surfers...NEW ENGLAND Surfers gave.
And what a good feeling that is.

Did I mention I showed my movie last night too? North By Northeast
Premiered in front of a healthy crowd and everyone seemed to really
like it. Like Joe Carter said last night..."Man we sure
do have a lot of good talent." And he's right. There's a handful
of young up and coming groms in this movie who absolutely rip, and a
steadfast crew of local riders who can still hold their own in any situation.
The movie covers all four seasons and is backed up by some big powerful
swells with a heavy local soundtrack.
In short, it's a perfect sampling of what the Northeast has to offer
in terms of swells and conditions. It was a festive mood to say the
least.
After the movie King's Highway took the stage and jammed the
night away and people were digging their all instrumental sound. They
even let me step up and play a tune. Man it was a fun night. If you
were there, you know what I'm talking about.
Tis the season to be Jolly!
Then today, our beloved most admired Football team the New England
Patriots woke up from last week's long nap and destroyed the helpless
Texans. I mean they beat up on these boys. Hurt them. Maybe made
a few cry. The score was 40 - 7. That's a bona fide, old fashioned
ASS WHOOPING! And...and...the team that beat us last week 21 to 0...
the MIAMI DOLPHINS lost to the BUFFALO BILLS today by
the same score. I swear. They lost 21-0! Can you imagine
being a Dolphin's fan? Oh man. That has got to hurt. And I mean
hurt bad.
This week's photos are VIDEO FRAME GRABS all from the Movie NORTH
BY NORTHEAST. I shot it all from
October (Hurricane Wilma) 2005 Thru the Veterans /Marine Corps
Birthday swell. November 10, 2006. Also featured is local
lensman John Carden who adds some killer stills throughout. There's
a WipeOut extra on the DVD for those of you who like that kind
of stuff. There's good to HOT local surfers surfing the best WAVES we
get around here. Plus there's some very HOT surfers from down south.
Please keep all of those who are in need of any kind help in your thoughts
and prayers again. It's the season of giving and caring. Happy
Holidays!
Remember
my friends...Surfing heals all wounds....
Pray for Surf. Pray for Peace. Surf For Fun.
