A Darkness has fallen on the world, during this most Joyous time of the year.

I'm not sure how to even begin this week's blog. My original blog notes were to poke fun at the Mayan Calendar, and the End Of The World, this Friday. December 21st, 2012.

Then my phone rang on Friday morning.

It was my friend Joe from Joe's Meat Shoppe. "Bobby Hendry passed away this morning." he said. What? Oh no... Poor Bobby.
I had just talked with him. He's a local mechanic who served in Vietnam and he had taken care of me and my family for years.
I could trust Bobby. And I really liked him.

He had a massive heart attack. A vehicle had driven into a local restaurant here in Hampton, and Bobby was called in. He also drives a wrecker. With EMT's present at the accident scene, Bobby suffered a massive heart attack and they could not save him. And just like that, Bobby was gone from this earth.

I was pretty upset. Damn Bobby. I was not ready for this.

So I went upstairs to pour myself another cup of coffee, and the TV was on in the kitchen. The news was filtering in about the shooting in Sandy Hook CT. At first it did not register. Then it
sunk in. This is real? This is happening right now?

Oh My God. Those children. Those poor kids.

To say that I was stunned and shocked would be an understatement. I felt a wave of grief and sadness come over
me and I broke down. When I looked up, I was looking across
the street at both a pre- school and an elementary school.

I see those kids walk to school every day. I see the parents and teachers go by. I wave at them. I smile and joke with many of them. I speak at these schools each and every year. My own kids have gone to school here. I have friends, both surfers, and non-surfers, who have children in these schools.

And I thought about the unthinkable reality of what the parents and teachers were dealing with in CT, of what some of those children witnessed, is in a word, 'unspeakable.'
My heart was breaking by the minute.

What kind of evil is capable of doing such an act?

Why is this happening more and more?

I knew the knee jerk reactions would come flooding in over airwaves, TV, newspapers, the social media pages. Facebook, Twitter, they were all lighting up. The anti-gun lobbyists were blowing the bugles, while the lawful gun owners made their case.

And yet there is no real answer or solution to any of this.

What are we supposed to do? Turn in all weapons from every gun owner in the country? Is that possible? Because only law abiding legal gun owners would do that. The criminals would still have them. Or they find a way to get them. Because criminals don't think like the rest of us.

Then if a law was passed for ALL gun owners to turn in their guns, how would you go about enforcing such a law? Go door to door and search every home for weapons? That's crazy. That's virtually impossible. The criminals would love that. Why?

Less of a chance for them to encounter a legal gun owner.

Look, the last handful of mass killings were done by those with serious mental problems. So then what? Do we arrest each person who has emotional problems? Are you kidding? In my opinion, it's beyond trying to police. And for those out there who want to ban assault weapons, keep this in mind. The kid who did this used two hand guns as well as an AR 15. Granted both Glocks were semi autos capable of shooting many rounds in a matter of seconds.

In my opinion, the problem is the slow decay of our society. That combined with the breakdown of simple basic morals, and disjointed families. We have to some extent, lost our moral compass. Yet, I am in agreement that something must be done.

Whatever it takes. If I thought there was an answer, and a viable solution to end this madness, I would be all for it. I simply don't see it. There is however one way. And this would not only provide security, but more jobs. And that is:

Put armed police/guards in every single school. In every movie theater. In every church. In every mall. In every place where there is a mass gatherings of innocent humans. Who cares what the cost is? This is the world we now all live in. I'd gladly pay extra for that service.

Because the cowards, who commit these cowardly acts, are truly cowards. There is nothing else to call them. And the last thing they want to face is an armed guard or Police Officer.

They simply do not want to face an actual armed Police Officer. That's why they all kill themselves after their evil deed. They are cowards. And their fantasy legacy? Sorry, you don't have a legacy. You are a coward. Cowards only have their yellow
coward streak. That's your legacy.

Only a coward kills an unarmed human being. Only a low- life, stinking, sniveling coward kills an unarmed child. COWARD.

It's not going to be easy to enjoy the holidays after this week.
I know the bigger and best thing to do would be to carry on
and go about our normal routines. But honestly? How do you
do that? There's nothing normal now.

How does any parent with school children not be affected by this? They can't. And shouldn't. Yet, you must and should say something to your children. Thank God there are professionals out there who know what words to say and use.

I am not one of them. I'm just a surfer. A blogger.

And so what do you do if you're a parent? It's so widespread and so deep, that it will take months for those with young children to get over this. And for those who were directly affected by this? There is no getting away from it. Ever.

It has now become a part of you. Like a social cancer. But like cancer, you can learn to live with it. And in some case even beat it. But it will take some doing.

I will say this, that if you have faith, this is the time to dig deep. God Bless the families and friends of the victims of this senseless tragedy. And may The Souls of those who died rest in peace.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:

There is NO KSM this week. NO Crackie. NO other news. In light of what happened in Sandy Hook, CT. They will be all back next week. But for now? There's nothing funny about this blog this week.

Patriots smoked the Texans last Monday...and almost pulled off the most amazing comeback against the 49'rs...almost. But it was not to be.
