OK, so I guess I owe some of you an apology.

Two weeks ago I wrote a sarcastic commentary about Sharks here in New England. It was for the most part meant to bring a smile to your faces. But I admit. I was wrong. And like I have many times in the past when I was wrong, I am at least man enough to admit my mistakes. Lord knows I've said I am sorry many times.

So here you go..."I'm sorry I opened my big anti shark mouth and stuck my big foot in there. Actually, I stuck both feet."

Or maybe I should just admit that I jinxed the long standing run of NO shark attacks in New England since 1936. In either case, that long record has been broken.

By now most of you have heard about the Shark attack on Ballston Beach in Truro last week. No? Oh come on. It was all over the news.

This guy above. 50 year Chris Myers, a longtime local New England native was bitten by a Great White on Cape Cod last week while swimming/boogieboarding with his 16 year old son. He claims he did not hear any news about any Great White sightings on the Cape the week prior to his little encounter.

Really Chris? And you are claiming to be a longtime local? What planet are you living on Chris? Oh wait...he's actually from Denver Colorado now. Aha. That explains everything. The land
of Tim Tebow, and now the home of Peyton Manning.

That explains everything. Damn Denverites.

Still Chris. You didn't hear anything about Great Whites being spotted on the Cape near the growing Seal population? Really?
Are any of you guys buying this? Because I'm not.

And not for nothing, but he and his young son "JJ" were out swimming some 400 to 500 feet from shore? Dude? What?

This dad is a Harvard University Graduate. Why would some Harvard grad take his young son that far out into waters that may, or may not have some dangerous fishes lurking about? I mean Blue Fish alone can bite you. Hello?

I guess my theory about humans not tasting good still stands.

Even the Harvard Grad himself admits that the shark spit him out the second it bit into his legs. Of course things could of been much worse had the shark grabbed little "JJ" by the Torso. The spitting out of JJ would be a bit too late. As in way too late.

That would interesting to hear. Why this Harvard grad thought it might be OK to swim that far out, looking for waves to body surf, with every other hour someone reporting a large White Shark in the area. I guess common sense was not one of his majors.

And look, I still stand by my blog from a couple of weeks ago.

I still think, or rather I KNOW, our waters here in New England to be safe from any potential fatal shark attacks. That's right. Even after this latest episode. Hell, we've had more coyote attacks in the last few years than we've had shark sightings.

Coyotes? We've had more Raccoon attacks. Still I know a lot of you Shark Freaks are staying clear of the water "just to be safe".

God forbid you are attacked by a man eating Great White while off swimming with your family here in New England. Oh the horror.

Whatever...I can't help you. And honestly, if one of you should be the first to be killed by a shark since 1936? I will publicly apologize to you and your family. Oh what the hell, I'll even write and read your Eulogy at your service, and take full responsibility.

But something tells me I won't be writing anything of the sort...if anything, I'll be writing more sarcastic musings about the Big Bad Shark who is waiting to eat us all...DA DA...DA DA DA...

So am I alone at the absolute embarrassment of our GOLD MEDAL US Men's Basketball Team in the London Olympics? Are you kidding me? No wonder other countries hate us. We're supposed to get teary eyed when Lebron and Kobe stand up and get that Gold Medal wrapped around their necks? Please. I can't change the channel fast enough. What a joke. The last thing either one of them needs is more bling.

I'm sorry...but as patriotic and as full of pride as I am for our athletes, and our country, I draw the line with this team. It's simply not fair. In fact, it's pathetic. I know I am not alone in this.

Now this guy...he rocks! Michael Phelps is the REAL DEAL! He's everything the Men's Basketball Team are not. Talk about record breaking Medal holders? Watching Phelps this week was an all time historical moment in all of lives. Good for you Michael Phelps. And
good for the USA. It's been great watching all week.

Speaking of Olympics, my son Max and I were talking today how it's only a matter of time before SURFING becomes an official Olympic Summer Game. The way they are building wave pools these days is pretty evident. That the SUMMER OLMPICS in the Future will feature SURFING.

Too bad that Kelly won't be around to take advantage of it. The 11 time World Champion would of looked so good standing there with
a Gold Medal around his neck. Mark my words.
Just like snowboarding, the future Olympic games will feature SURFING. And by surfing, I mean SURFING. Not SUPPING. Not Bodyboarding. But surfing. The latter two might come along later, but for now? SURFING needs to be added to the Summer Games. Wave pools are the future.

That little 8yr old Grom you see at your local break could very well be a future Medallist. An Olympian might very well be in your midst.

"Surfing is coming to the Future Olympics..."

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances:
While the whole world is watching the Olympics, the world in Syria is crumbling and falling apart. The mass exodus into Turkey has been almost a non story on the news. It is so heartbreaking to watch. Those poor families being displaced by the ruthless Syrian Army is screaming for the world to do something. Hello?

Instead we are tuned into the Olympics. It's a better story. And I suppose there is something to be said for our country kicking butt.

Besides...Every time an American team wins a medal, a Terrorist kills himself in protest. Amen. Or is it Allah Arkbar?

Khalid Sheik Mohammed has offered to swim at Truro Cape Cod to check for sharks. Problem is, no White Shark out there would bite into that hairy burger. You kidding me? No shark within miles would strike at that floating pile of human waste. No I'm afraid Ole KSM must wait at GITMO with his fellow loser Terrorists.

Yesterday- 1989 "SURFER" story and photos on New Hampshire.
(Below) Seeing a series of sunset shots as of late from the bevy of talented local surf photographers, I dug this up from a few years ago. That's Chris Valhouli sitting outside as
a big blustery peak unfolds on a cold Fall Day back in 1988. The story ran in the May Spring issue of 1989. I wrote the story and Michael Baytoff took the photos. I have this framed in my bedroom. Photo by Michael Baytoff.

(Above) I heard the unmistakable voice of my old nemesis long before I saw him.
But there was no mistaking who it was. I had to pinch myself to make sure I had not
passed away and found myself in my own version of purgatory. Fred had come to Hampton. He was being nice to me as opposed to the last time I saw him.
But I'm a bigger man than that and I calmed the situation down two years ago with
humor. I forgive, but never forget. And...I even got this photo of him.

DANIELLE & EARL August 31st and September 4th, 2010 from
Ralph's Pic Of The Week
on Vimeo.

OK with the Tropics started to burp and rumble...I thought I'd run this clip from 2010. August and September 2010 we had Hurricane Danielle and followed by Hurricane Earl. Remember the water temps? They were were sooooo warm. It was damn near Tropical. It was and it is now.

I shot some water footage of Danielle and then I shot some land footage of Earl. The music is by the super talented QWILL.

This clip is to just get us all primed for the up and coming Hurricane Tropical Storm Season. Keep your fingers crossed.
