Lions, Tigers, and Groms. Surfing, Community, and Love.

Yes the background is pink. Anyone have a problem with pink? I
didn't think so. Those of you who live around here know exactly why I'm using a pink background this week. On Saturday August 1st, 2015 we had our 6th annual MOLLY contest. And the color pink was Molly's favorite color. So it's pink this week..

This is Molly Rowlee. Just 6 years on the planet and she has left a legacy and movement that gets bigger and bigger each year. The brainchild of daddy Buck Rowlee. The man is a fireball of energy.
And his voice is the second loudest voice in the entire seacoast.
With yours truly holding the first place slot. (loud mouth champ)

Not sure if I should be boasting about that.

Buck was his usual self, bigger than life, over the top MC, and ringleader. Buck is not shy about anything. He lets things roll off his back unless it's something critical. Otherwise he's part comic, and part dad/friend. And he can be heard all over 10th Street at the
Wall in Hampton. Up and down from one opening to the other. We can still hear him going on about the gifts and Molly. Or rather the spirit of Molly.

There was not a sole present who wasn't moved by what they witnessed on Saturday August 1st, 2015. And let me tell you, it was something very special. The weather, the surf, the crowds.
Parents, and Grom. A sea of stoke.

And every child went home with one of these.

The MOLLY and the MOLLY fund will live on long after we are gone from this earth. To date, Buck told us the fund has raised $300,000 thus far. All going to the Children's hospital to help families with children who are fighting cancer. Such a wonderful fund.

Kai Nichols surfing in his ESA heat. The surf was a perfect size for the younger groms. Clearly Kai would of wanted it on the larger size. But the sign of a well balanced surf competitor, is the ability to be able to surf small waves and big waves. And you better know how to surf.

This may very well be the largest wave this little grom ever caught in her life. And it it was like this all day long. Clean thigh to waist high plus. As a parent who went through years of traveling with other kids and families , it was fun to watch it from a completely different perspective. All day long I was having episodes of deja vu. And I was not the only one. My wife Cory had them. Skip and Terri, Karen Evans, and a boatload more.

We were clearly the older more experienced parents there.

Jon Anderson holding one of his unique Sign Post flags. Jon has
them dialed in big time. I have one hanging outside my office door.
Jon is also one of the judges at the ESA contests. His sons are competitors in the ESA.

One of the highlights of the day came later in the afternoon. Skylar "Sky" Rosa was watching the surfing intently as he always does when Dave Cropper looked over at Mike Rosa and said, "I think Sky wants to surf." Before there was any more discussion, Crop had Max run down to the shop to get the right board for Sky. For those who don't know Mike Rosa, he's a surfer who has been surfing here for decades. Everyone knows Mike and everyone knows Sky.

Sky is unable to walk on his own. But he sure in hell wanted to try surfing. My son Max got Sky on the board and shoved off. You've all heard the saying "a picture is worth a thousand words"...well this is one of those times. This photo by PT Sullivan captured one of the most pure and honest stoked surf shots any of us had ever seen.

Look at the smiles. Look at the stoke. I'm proud of you Max. And I'm proud as hell for the Rosa family. The simple things matter.

And none of us were at all surprised that this happened during the MOLLY. The whole spirit of the MOLLY is in this photo and all the other photos in the blog this week. Especially Martha Lardent's pics. She was there all day long capturing moments that can only be described as magical.

Another wonderful moment. Jude Logue's $1,000 donation to the MOLLY fund from his company ALLSTATE. Amazing.

This is a free offer to all NH Veterans. If you have any of these symptoms and were ever curious about
acupuncture, this would be a good time to check it out.

Now for Some Of My Weekly Global Observances
Ok I'm not sure how many of you are aware of the Dentist Walter Palmer who killed a 13 year old Lion named "Cecil". He paid $50,000 for the chance to bag a full grown male Lion. Why anyone would want to shoot a cat is beyond me. It's unthinkable. I am all for hunting where the hunter eats what they harvest. Deer, pheasant and other upland birds. But big cats? Why?

There can't be many of these Leopards left on the planet. The good Dr has killed his fair share of exotic and rare animals.

Rhinos? Really? Why? Such a beautiful beast. I'm sure the local tribes get to eat the meat from these big animals but wouldn't it be better if just shipped them healthy food?

.
We think that if you want to shoot and kill something that significant, and pose with the dead beast. Why not a scumbag terrorist like this? You would not offend anyone. Am I right people?

So once again, please enjoy the weekly humiliation of the mastermind terrorist who killed 3,000 innocent civilians on September 11th, 2001. Khalid Sheik Mohammed (KSM), the mastermind behind 9-11 the captured Al Qeada ICON is getting his weekly slap in the face. You're welcome KSM fans.

* Note to self: Must pick up a case of Kitty Liter at Home Depot

Happy Birthday August people, 2015!
*Facebook no longer gives me the weekly birthday
updates. They only send me daily ones. Sorry.

Please keep my sister Evamarie in your thoughts and prayers
and continue to send positive thoughts to our dear friend Meghan Evans and family, same with surf photographer Andrew Rebeiro and my dear friend Greg Brooks. Also say a prayer for my good friend Robert Gerard. And please continue to pray for local Hampton surfers Terry Morrison and Rick Fiorentini and their families. And lastly, please pray for Dave O'Connor. A good man, a great mentor to so many kids, and a wonderful school principal. Another NH surfer could use some prayers. Please pray for John Sexton. Thank you.

Please add them all to your prayer list. Thank you.

Yesterday- One more of Greg Smith. The Wall 1975
(Below) I posted last week's blog having using Greg Smith an older friend of ours who was everything I write last week. Turns out, that same weekend Greg was rushed to the Hospital on Kauai. Turns out Greg had clotted arteries. It was touch and go there for a while. The irony of having Greg on the blog and then to find out he was near death was crazy. So here's another shot of Greg from the same session. Say a prayer for Greg.

The MOLLY Surf Celebration August 20-21-2011 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The 2nd annual MOLLY Surf Celebrations was AWESOME! Buck. Meighan, and Kieran Rowlee along with dozens of volunteers and a couple of hundred participants and viewers had an absolute blast!

Wild costumes! Crazy rides! Big Smiles and lots of laughter for two full days. So many volunteers helped make this special. Big HUGS to all!

While this video clip only tells a small portion of what went down, suffice it to say, that The MOLLY was, and will continue to be one of the most fun filled days on the seacoast. Can't wait until next year!!

Meanwhile enjoy this clip... it's all here. Surfing. Community. LOVE.
