The Last Surfing With Smiles of the Summer. Oh and it appears that we might be on the brink of a Nuclear War.

I don't know if it's me just getting older and more sentimental, but I am increasingly getting more emotional about the little things in life. Losing friends and loved ones, or simply saying goodbye until next year, to the kids and their parents at the SURFING WITH SMILES events. Or maybe I'm just an old softy after all. The Summer is flying by, and I think that might be part
of it. Time is not what it used to be.

When I was a kid, time would drag on by. Now? It's like the Polar Express.

The days and weeks are on a fast track to the future. Some of you who are past the half century mark are nodding in agreement. The rest of you are paying no attention to this. And really, why should you? Live your life now. Don't wait until tomorrow to take that surf trip, buy that new board, or that
new wetsuit. Hell, if you're on the fence about buying a house. I say jump.

Jump while you still have the fresh legs to jump with.

And if shit goes wrong? Don't blame me. Because we all know the old saying..."shit happens." And it does. So do regrets. So you either take chances, or accept your regrets. It's your call my friends. Your call.

So the community has three SURFING WITH SMILES each Summer. June, July, and August. It's hard not to get attached to these kids and their parents. I think I can speak for most of the volunteers when I say, I have come to know and understand Autism more today because of this wonderful event.

Lindsay Mercer, Taylor Thomas, and Chelsea Stevens are the trio who started this whole movement. Dave "Crop" Cropper is the main sponsor of these events. Anyone who knows Dave, knows that he has the biggest heart of gold. He's been there every single event. Providing soft top surfboards and wetsuits for everyone. And I mean everyone. The participants and the volunteers. There were close to two hundred people at this last one on August 10th. Think about that. Two hundred people.

There were close to 100 kids who signed up to go surfing.

My old saying of "Surfing Heals All Wounds" is never more apparent than it is at these great events. Surfing does have that healing power. While it might not cure cancer or autism, it certainly helps with your self esteem and putting a smile on your face. And honestly? That's the simple beauty of this event. Putting smiles on the faces of kids with autism.

And much like the Wounded Warrior HIT THE BEACH event, it's hard to tell who is having more fun. The kids or the volunteers? I'd say it's about even.

Just ask Tony here. He looks happy. Hell, there wasn't a sad face all night.

Team Phil were all smiles and BIG GUNS! Until next summer, may you all winter well. And remember kids "Surfing Heals All Wounds"

COMING LATE SUMMER!

Now for Some International News
The world has gone crazier this week than it did last week.
I know it's not a joke, but damn if this doesn't hit the nail on the head. These two should get in a cage and duke it out. In fact, they should both be butt naked and it should be a Pay Per View event.
Half of the pay Per View earnings should go to the poor civilians living in North Korea. Surely, they all can't agree with that nut job.

I'm not kidding. Get both of these "Leaders" in the Octagon and strip them of all clothing and have them fight. No rules. In other words anything goes. That would settle things. Putin can be the referee. KRAZY KIM vs DEADLY DONALD! The Battle of the Terrible Haircuts! And the winner gets to shave the head of the loser. Come on people, this would be GREAT TV!

I'm telling you people, this could be a money maker "Unlike anything the world has ever seen before!
"

KSM Photoshop of the Week
Krazy Kim Young Un and Deadly Donald Trump may have been stealing the headlines as of late, but let us NOT forget our boy down in GITMO. He's been running Nuclear Bomb drills for his fellow Terrorists. Hey they're scared shitless. You kidding? Those two make our boy look like Mr Rogers. Look at little Sheiky. He's fricken frightened.

So my friends, please take advantage of this weekly photo shop of the mastermind who planned 9-11 and resulted in the deaths of 3,000 innocent civilians by KSM (Khalid Sheik Mohammed).

*Note to self -must pick up a case of Back To School Supplies

There was always something going on at Joe's. Guaranteed to make you laugh. And always within walking distance to the surf. Photo courtesy of Charlie.

SURFING WITH SMILES II July 25th, 2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.|

The second SURFING WITH SMILES of the 2017 Summer Season. It is exactly what the title says. Try not smiling, while watching these beautiful kids with autism, surfing at North Beach, in Hampton, NH. "Surfing with Smiles" is now in it's 8th year. Special thanks to Lindsay Mercer, Dave Cropper, Kevin Grondin and the many many wonderful volunteers. There are literally too many to name. The kids and their parents love you all. Music is by Ty Tabor the song is YOUR EYES off the Safety CD.

SURFING WITH SMILES June 2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo

The first of three "Surfing With Smiles" this Summer of 2017. Thanks to Cinnamon Rainbows, and all the Volunteers. You guys Rock! Hard not to smile, watching these kids with Autism riding waves. Another example of what surfing can do for your soul. *Special Thanks to my little assistant "Bennett" who actually shot one of the rides. He was pretty stoked about my cameras. and wanted so badly to try one. So I set him up for one shot. He was more steady than I was. I told him and his mother, "I'm gonna have to give him credit on the edit." Prepare to be stoked my friends. Prepare to be stoked.

GRANITE GIRLS and The RIVER WOMEN
from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the trailer for the new Surf Free Or Die and Ralph's Pic movie about the women surfers of the Northeast.
We're looking at a late summer release. It's been fun working with these talented women. The movie itself will be around 30 minutes long.
Hope you like it.

JUNEASTER June 7-8-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo.

The welcomed Nor'easter we got on June 6th, 2017 that gave us 3 solid days of waves. All the points, reefs, and beaches were firing. I shot from NH to ME. And while the overall conditions were not exactly ideal, the vibe in and out of the water was filled with laughter. Why do surfers have to be so cruel to one another, especially when watching your buds get smoked out in the water? I don't know, but it's always been that way. We hoot when someone gets a good wave, and we howl when someone eats shit. Ha...I'm smiling now just writing this.

This web edit is a first for me. The shooting was shared with Kyle Linseman's cool Drone footage. I can foresee a partnership working with Kyle. He's stoked about shooting the action. And make no mistake about it, Kyle can rip. So for him to sacrifice his own surf time to shoot, speaks volumes of his new found passion. The music is by Meshell Ndegeocello and John Digwood. I'm stoked about this one. Hope you will be too.

MOTHER'S DAY SWELL May 14-15-16-2017 from Ralph's Pic Of The Week on Vimeo. This is the web edit for the 3 Day Mother's Day Swell. It never really got bigger than head high. And it rained the first two days. Still, it was surf, and beggars can't be choosers now can we. I did the edit today after hearing about the death Chris Cornell, lead singer for Soundgarden. He had a great voice. It's ironic because I was looking for the right song to go with this edit. And I believe I found it with Black Hole Sun. The surfers that I can remember are: Kai Nichols, Tom Hay, Andy Elliott, Mikey Moran, Skip Brunette, Erik Zak, Kody Grondin, Chris Stelman, Max Fatello, Mikey Evans, and a handful I couldn't ID. This is for all the mothers. past, present, and future. And it's in memory of Chris Cornell.
